Yep, that's right. I've added WH 3rd edition to my (ever growing, it seems) rules collection as well as the Warhammer Armies book.

Really refreshing! Who could resist Dwarf fire thrower, Chaos Dwarf bazuka, Nippon mercenaries (including rocket kamikaze) and Slann army. Yep, a real army of Frogmen instead of lizardmen.   Plus there are the Zoats, Halflings, Pygmies, Norse and Fimir. No amazons, though.

And I found a really interesting promise in the rulebook:"A complete guide to the lands of Nippon is already under development" (!). Since it's now been in development for 20 years I guess it will be released soon...  :p  :p

Ooh, I don't have this - I started out with 4th.
Rocket kamikaze? Oh wow!

There were Amazon in 3rd ed :D, check out the scenario that comes with the game, it features a Amazon warrior with a bolt pistol helping to defend the village against the marauding Slann.

The Temple Dogs are pretty sweet too.

We still use the pushback rule in our 6th ed games ;), in general 6th ed (sorry 7th ed now) is pretty awesome, but it really does need the pushback rule to polish it off.

It came out about the same time as Rogue Trader. I remember this as my friend got the WH fantasy at the same time as I got Rogue Trader in the late 80's.

The rocket kamikaze idea has clearly been used in the Doomdiver catapult as, in both cases, a suicide nut is launched up into the air to crash at the enemy.  It's just the delivery method that's different and the doomdiver, obviously, don't have an explosive warhead.

You can see it's RPG legacy in the rules too :).

It did need cleaning up, but I loved the army lists.

Yeah I played it for long enough, really the rules were pretty terrible but we still had a lot of fun somehow :)

Pygmy ally contingent... Hobgoblin ally contingent... Fimir :)

Are you sure it's not 2nd edition or perhaps in some earlier edition of Warhammer Armies? The scenario in my rulebook is about High Elves and Orcs.  ??? No Temple Dogs either.

I'm wiling to bet that's some kind of scenario pack, although one I've never before heard of to be sure.  :O

The Amazons _are_ mentioned in the book but there are no statistics. They are supposed to be another Slann genetic experiment. They were the technicians and helpers of the Slann and, ironically, now have higher level of technology than the degenerated Slann themselves.

They guard the temple treasures (high tech goods), it was back in the day when the Warhammer world was in the Eye of Terror :D.

I dont think that third edition of Warhammer was available as a boxed set - just the nice orange book. That was my introduction to fantasy wargaming! I recently went on eBay and picked up both Realm of Chaos books to replace my copies that MUST still be sitting around here... somewhere!

I've got this version of Warhammmer Armies

And my mistake - I have the 2nd edition of Warhammer :) See cover. The scenario in question is the Magnificent Sven.

All the way through to 5th was herohammer. I've owned 1st, 3rd and 7th, but played most (at least a game or two to check them out). The big gap in the middle there was me giving up on herohammer :)  7th is pretty good.

I agree, 6th and 7th edition are both excellent editions :).
