I got a squad of Forge World's new DKoK Grenadiers. The cabling on the arm sprues looked very fragile, which in turn looked glossy.

So, being a foolhardy type, I squeezed the cabling, and it flexed. Evidently Forge World is using a new type of resin in some molds.

I checked with Smooth-On, and they have flexible resin, but it is very viscous, so it is unsuited for my kind of simplistic techniques.

Here's a pic:

And no, I didn't buy them to make duplicates. At least, until matter printers are available.

Aye this was adopted a while ago for their more fragile bits, first used about the time that the Elysian Veterans Squads were released, IIRC.

I wish they'd cast the Tau infantry with that stuff.  :(

Agreed !  I'd wish they'd have used that on all their 6mm stuff !

And, how does it affect our use - in terms of sanding and taking paint? I imagine that the flexi stuff is more difficult to file down...?

The flexi stuff seems just as good for taking detail, cutting, sanding etc.

I assume that it's simply a more expensive resin, which is why it's not used all the time.

I might fire off an email and see if they'll consider doing the Epic Tau in flexi resin!

And for that matter, the Epic grey knights.

Again, I agree ... The Gray Knights are among the worse ... Between, cleaning off releaser, Fragile/brittle parts, cost, toxic dust ... ???

Sand? File? Paint? Why would I do that? These things are going into my daughter's dowry.
