As the title says, has anyone read the Gotrek and Felix series? Is it any good? I just happened to see a compilation sitting on the shelves at Barnes & Nobles and I thought about picking it up.

No, just a short story - if the books stick to the same formula (and they should), quite racy and fun.

I've read the entire set (and am impatiently waiting for Orcslayer, the newest book in the set).  They're more-or-less cotton candy for the mind (you know, all sweet and fluff, no substance), except that there's little sweetness in Warhammer.

If you like dark fantasy, pick them up.  There's nothing quite like reading about one dwarf with an attitude problem cleaving his way through just about anything.  ('The safest place to be was just behind Gotrek's axe.'  ???  that does not say much for Felix's bravery)

Sounds like my kind of reading.  :D

Yeah, it probably would be, considering I'm talking to the man with the Grombrindal avatar.

And mine, I might add. I, too, have read the entire series and found it to be good for entertainment purposes. With 3 kids and a drill sergeant (wife  :p ) I don't have the mental  energy to read Schopenhauer or Shakespeare.  :)

Really?

I tried to read Pawns of Chaos but didn't rate it as worthy of finishing. The reviews and extracts from the horus heresy books also didn't fill me with confidence. Some of the dialogue in particular seemed pretty turgid.

I have heard good things about Angels of Darkness by Gav Thorpe.

(Also this is a bit too wierd, with me being the sole person in the thread attacking GW things rather than vice versa.... :D )

I'm currently reading the second book, but thanks for the recommendation anyway.

I think that it depends on which book you look at. Each one has a different author, so that will dictate their quality. From what I have heard, the first two are pretty good, but the third is looking less so.

I've made up my mind to buy the book I saw. It seems like it will be a good read, even if it doesn't rank with the "Classics".  :D

Hi!

Pawns of chaos does indeed stink.

Pick up Dan Arbetts books they are pretty good. I can give specific recommendations if you'd like with titles and authors.

I've just finished Execution Hour, by Gordon Rennie, having heard good things about it.  I enjoyed it.

Which of Abnett's books would you recommend most?
