There is one new Codex which has me as nearly excited (if not more so) than the Daemonhunters Codex and that is the Witchhunters Codex.

Having see lots of nice preview pictures on the GW website of the new miniatures this looks like it could be another really nice release. The fact that a lot of the models are interchangeable with Daemonhunters means less models to buy.

Looking good, available to pre-order.

Jimbo,

You plan on building a force?

Personally I always found the Witch hunters the dark aspect of the imperium. ?The hole concept of a "real world" witch hunt as scary/repulsive...Salem, McCarthy hearing.s

But in the sci-fi genre it it's the Imperium's most colorful and detailed backstories. ?It provide an insight into the culture of the imperium that it's "convential" military cannot reveal.

On top of all that some of the models are super cool... ? :)

some are disturbing..penatent engine and such...

(always a gamer, always into the toys)

Take Care

Yeah, Witchhunters looks like being a very cool addition to the available 40k forces- I might go out of my way to get the Inquisitor from a recent 'sneek peek' with the custom plasmagun just to paint simply because imo it has to be one of GWs best 40k models ever...  :-:

After a long time I return   heh. Hello

Anyway, I for one am not that impressed by them. For example some stuff like the sisters repentia (?) are something I DREAD in a SoB (love those initials) force. They look HORRIBLE in an inperial force. I find those to be great for Slaanesh, but not for the imperial force. Other stuff like the penitent engine simply yell to me "NOT SUITABLE FOR BATTLEFIELD WORK!!"; it looks like a good impressive bully machine, but given the fact that if you are such a powerful individual you can simply walk around in a leviathan (is that the one) super command tank it makes no sense to go around in such a machine to me.

In genweral, I think the concept is ok, the gaming stats suck for a lot of the stuff they have around.

Regards,

Xavi

++++ WARNING DANGEROUS THREAD ++++

Ah you see this is where I differ from most gamers I play games to have fun and having an all-winning army is very low on my priorities - which is why I will always use Grots whenever I can!

For me the models (and thus the painting) are more important than winning, if it looks cool I might be more likely to use it rather than because it has the best stats!

I remember my Warhammer Fantasy Battle Days (first and second editions) my opponents were heavily into Chaos Warriors, I preferred snotlings (individually based as Lesser Goblins) or pygmies.

So for me, Witch Hunters is all about the models (and the fluff - which is a first for me) and not about the stats.

++++ WARNING DANGEROUS THREAD ENDS ++++

(Why is this dangerous, as I just know someone is going to come along and try and convince me that wargaming is all about winning...)

I'd just like to add a hearty
"Here Here" to that

Background & character in an army is what its all about for me. I'm known for loosing, but always with the biggest laugh, at my club, whatever the game!

I've been told my Savage Orc army doesnt stand a hope (should note that was before I topped 30 boarboys... opinions might have changed...), but it looks cool & has character so I'm continuing.

Going OT briefly, This is exactly why I like LotR as well. The game mechanics are, well, not the best, but I usually play without a single named character & find characters build themselves through their individual exploits inthe game. I've lost about 65% of my games, but with the exception of a single model in one opponents army ("Bill" goblin sniper - he's shot & killed Eomer, theodon & 7 un-named captains in just 5 games...), mines got the best character as a force :D

Well done Jimbo -I think the world needs more "gamers" like yourself to lead our crusade!

Well, "It's all a matter of taste" said a dachshund when licking his balls.  :p  :p

I agree with Jimbo and Mr. Skull in that gaming _should_ be all about having fun and not winning, although unfortunately I must be the first to admit that for me that "having fun" part is pretty hard if I'm NOT winning.  :(

That said, I second the opinion about the sisters masochist, er, sisters _repentia_ and the penitent engine. They look horrible and confirm my suspicions about the preferences of certain artists/mini designers. Plus I'm not that impressed with the arco flagellants either, especially the mace handed one looks awful. :oo

they are really very similar (being all paty of the Inqusition) but to put it simply

Daemonhunters hunt daemons and can use Grey Knights

Witch Hunters hunt heretics and can use Sisters of Battle

Xenos Hunters hunt aliens and can use Deathwatch

One day young Jedi you will learn the true power of the force.

The winning is not the important part it is the taking part, otherwise you may always be miserable.

Although I like to win myself, I do find that the painting and effort of the hobby is my favourite part.

Daemonhunters caught my eye because of the cool models, I have a little 40k army of them and I cant wait to see something like that in Epic.  I think thats what caught my interest with the epic Tau.  I havent had favourites or characters, but after being dragged into LoTR that could change  ???

Savage Orcs have appealed to me also for the same reason, they sound fun (as does an all-goblin army).

Just on the side relating to the Boar Boyz, are you using the "metal" variants at ?6 or have you discovered the all plastic versions for ?4.50 (which includes two free Orcs)?

Well done Jimbo -I think the world needs more "gamers" like yourself to lead our crusade! ?

I like to think that Jervis "Scenario" Johnson is in this camp as well.

It was actually the focus on gamers in the official forums on tournament play, points values and older models which really turned me off in that forum (which is why I have such a low number of posts there).

Even now there are people saying you can't play a game with an all-flyer Ork army as the lists don't allow it...

Of course you can play such a game, the GW Police won't come round and smack you around because you "cheated" and didn't use official lists!

To me it sounds like a great idea, lots of Flyboyz, Landas flying in and destroying a huge Imperial convoy - or is that Iraq 1991???

One of my favourite Epic games consisted of 10000 (ten thousand) points of Ork infantry versus a 1000 (thousand) points of Imperial Guard. The Orks were not allowed any ranged weapons and came onto the table in waves against a central hospital defended by the IG - Rourke's Drift. That sort of game would not be "allowed" as it was not fair (damn right I should have had 20,000 points of Orks) and certainly didn't conform to any army list!

Of course the problem with this approach is that some people like to win at all costs which means that they will go beardy and cheesey!!!

My main regiment is of the old metal savage Orc Boarboys. Bought them back when they were ?3 each though!! ?:D

The rest are actually from Black Tree Designs, as is tha majority of the army at the moment. In time, I will be replacing regiments with Old style Savage Orcs, keeping the newer regiment of S.Os as my S.O. Big'Uns. My warlord is only a normal S.O. boarboy command piece, but he works out to around twice the size of the old style models so he looks about right!

The force can be seen on the Workbench on my Mercenary Brush site:

As a last note - you may want to check the prices on your cheap boarboyz page. I know they were certainly correct a year or so ago, as I considered the same route myself. However, since GW bought out the empire Detachment box, they upped the sprues which came with the game from ?2 each - ?6 each (!!!) & I think they reviewed all loose sprue prices at the same time.

And hey would be wrong  For me the game is about the background. I am into this game because of a certain ####### called Tolkien, but not the LOTR but the Silmarillion. Yup, I am that weird ;) The LOTR is to the Silmarillion in middle earth what WH40k is to epic in the GW 40k universe: a skirmish game between people with too big egos. Hail Fingon!!

LOL

Well, what I said, I am here because of the fluff. I love when my friends look at my armies and see "what the hell is that LION you have there!?!" and I reply "it is a thematic elven list from chrace and this is a great eagle in gaming stats" :D I am the freak there, you know. I like tematic armies even if they are not as competitive as more regular armies. I might lose but i perefer it that way.

In general, the hobby is much broader than simply throwing dice and moving small picnic force around a limited camping ground.

Health and a lot of sixes,

Xavi

The prices I quote are correct (they're the ones I paid just a week ago).

Now ?3 for a boar rider that's more like it, though I do remember buying five orcs for ?1.95 and I thought that was expensive!
