I have seen threads on human and Eldar lifespans, but what about Orks, grotz etc?

I was wondering how old, if they get to live that long, they can live for. Any ideas?

As long as there is room and food for 'em they just keep growing as far as I am aware.

Hence Ghazaskull is now blimming huge when he used to be just slightly larger than your ordinary ork.

I had considered the possibility of them being almost immortal.  I'm not fond of that though.  I like mortals to be just that.

However, as they are part plant, and plants seem to live a very long time (as long as you look after them right, mine seem to die - conifers, bushes etc)  Anyway, B.O.T, I figured they too would have this naturally long age.  Death in combat being the usual way of limiting life.

So, if death in combat is pretty much the only way to kill them.  THen shouldn't there be some very tough Orks out there?  I mean, to be a Warboss means being the biggest and hardest in the tribe.  Once at that status, its gonna be rare for anyone to defeat you.  SO you'd keep getting bigger.  I dont have any recollection of any Old Orks becoming weaker with age, like humans.

Considering how bad ass and old Ghazkul is, I dont think his stats are that amazing. Not as mean as what I'd expect an Ork to have, if he were to have lived exceptionally old. He is only marginally better than an ordinary warlord.

To be honest I would rather have an ordinary one, as youe at least can get a ward save for him (I know Ghazkul has that special one, but it does only last for 1 turn).

It is possible that once they start to get to certain age/size they start to slow down, but I prefer the way of thinking that they are culled by combat. The older orks are always bigger and I see them to be pretty much immortal, it is only there bloodlust that gets them killed.

Warhammer 50,000 - Ghazkull the living titan...It could happen, as long as they keep growing and Yarrick ain't got his hands on him.

Cheers

I thought ( i think I read it somewhere...) that orks become less active after some hundreds of years if they have not been killed. More or less itis a farseer-esque development. Ork gets less active and slower. ends up being rooted. After all he is a freakin' plant. Not that I like the idea of orks being plants (looks plainly stupid to me) but that is what I recall having read. Most of the time a lascanon ends them up,though

Regards,

Xavi

Sounds familiar and makes sense.

Can you imagine Ghazaskull setting down with a wife and four spores?

Lol, Ghazkull settling down? Yarrick would find his so easily. (Dakka dakka dakka)

But I wouldn't pass on GW making a like smaller version of Gaz, like his son to add to the background and his legacy. It would work a bit like Helena and Kal Jericho. They are related you know...

Cheers

Hi!

I think I read in that old "ere we go" book they reproduce like simple yest by budding, so I think when orks reach a certain age they sort of divide in two, like cells.

There is no mention on how long its takes an ork to reach that state.

On Ork reproduction, they shed spores pretty much constantly.  If these fall somewhere with the right conditions (damp dark etc) they mature into the fully grown Ork (or grot/squig).  An ork starts to shed spores pretty much as soon as they are born, since they are already fully matured upon arrival.

This is why Orks can suddenly appear on worlds thought cleansed after an Ork attack.  Unless cleansed through flame, they will never be totally eradicated.  The reason why Orks are still present on Armaggeddon.

As for taking root  :D   That would be funny.  A tree in the shape of Ghazkull.  Maybe thats what treemen are in fantasy... :oo    :l

Hi!

I think their reproduction method makes orks very lethal, if they had the sufficient malice to pull it off correctly.

Imagine "seeding" hundreds of planets with "ork spores"? The infestation would be to such a degree I doubt it could be stopped.

I'm pretty sure they DON'T shed spores all the time. I heard it is when they die that they shed spores all around.

I'm afraid it IS continuous. From the back of the GorkaMorka "Da Uvver Book";

"Throughout an Orkoids life, the creature Sheds spore-like cells containing the entire genetic code of one of the orkoid races. These are shed in an unconcious manner much as a human replicates skin cells and sheds dead tissue without realising it."

Whether they spawn sucessfully relies on surrounding conditions to some extent, but also on the population density of Orks already present. If There's loads already, the spores wont grown an orkoid. If there's few orKs around, they will. This means that Orks never suffer from over-population but can also rely on steady numbers in a battlefield situation. Pretty Neat.

Actually reading further through the fluff of Gorkamorka....

"As an Orkoid grows older, it sheds more spores. When an Orkoid dies, its body becomes a rich source of nutrition for its own surviving spores, and old Orkoids desert their communities to seek out dank, shaded spots which favour breeding before they finally succumb to old age. It should be noted that Orks, the largest and longest-lived species, rarely survive more than 30 terran years, although exceptional and powerful individuals live longer than lower ranking ones."

So
1: The shed / procreate more when they get old / die despite it being perpetual through their life as well
2: The average one of da Ladz is only destined for a life of 30 years!
