I wonder if one could develop a semi-random dice-affected flow chart to detirmine an opponent's actions in Epic.
It could probably be done. The trick is to make it complex enough that the 'enemy' can't be lead around by the nose by a player who can work out the reactions simply, simple enough to be viable, tight enough to get rid of the phenomenon of one player effectively playing both sides and adaptive enough to cope with a variety of battlefield situations. I suspect that Epic is too tactical and open for an effective solo set of rules. It really needs a more limited game. Any solo rules would require a table based on the type of enemy unit, the positioning of the objectives and and threat of the player.

the ability to make outrageous wagers and buys rounds?
Yeah. Smack talk in a solo game just comes across as a little sad and pathetic.

Has a forum run epic battle ever been tried? 1 person sets up, takes a pic/webcam feed, forum members post in thread to make moves, pic updates, repeat. Like vassal but even slower and more cumbersome.
I guess that this would be possible, but would 'scratch a different itch'. Really, I would like a solo system for that odd hour when the only thing on TV is yet another repeat of Hollyoaks.... or the Olympics, thinking ahead.
