My current job takes away loads of time, but it has it's occasional perk. As I am dean of the Faculty of Engineering, I was appointed one of the judges of our local version of Robot Wars.
It's a small event, with 6 teams, all from Uni, taking part, but quite aggressive and (I have to admit) fun.
Anyone want to take a peek:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1Glk7IBcGCgI think I can be seen for a fraction of a second - I'm the judge in the middle.
The video's a bit overlong, and does not dhow the speed and aggression of one robot in particular. Or the nasty feeling that a whirling blade could fly off and impale you. At one point you see a competitor kicking a robot: it's not frustration, he's trying to get it free of the woodwork, where it impaled itself!
