That's the problem I have - I am not actually near any Gamesworkshop's.

I like to have a Painting night with my friends at my house. Wife usually cook some tacos and our kids go terrorize in the kids area and then we "big kids" sit down and talk shop and try to paint,

That's another problem, I don't actually have any friends that play warhammer fantasy.

Thanks. Not sure about far from crapish but it is definitely lazy: primer, basecoats, wash for 2 colours max, highlights for 2 colours max, some details, done.

I've tended towards games which feature fewer models exactly because it takes me so long to paint stuff properly... I'm still doing a lot of Adeptus Titanicus, just so I can play with half a dozen models! I've even started 54mm skirmish gaming for the same reason.
My Warhammer fantasy armies have never even been out of the box - I just don't have the time. Still, I could always go the Ogre Kingdoms route - don't need many models for that...

Cheers,
Michael

That's a good idea Reaver - I might actually go for that.

you could always just send your minis overseas to get painted.

that way you could just enjoy the game. It's a small cost to pay if it keeps you gaming for the next 10 years rather than shelving your minis.

True, so what are some good painting services that have experience with epic minis? And I don't mean experience with GW minis or experience with 6mm minis. An answer in the form of a PM is acceptible.

Niel in reinforcements by post plays Epic and knows all about the colour schemes.

I cant say I've ever got bored of painting my own armies. I more often find (as I did recently with my huge orce project) that I avidly collect and paint huge amounts of models, then take them to the table only to be disappointed by the game & realisation taht I never enjoyed WHFB a great deal. So for me, the painting project stalled when I started to think about the gaming - quite the reverse!

With regards painting services, you wont get a better deal than Reinforcements by post. I have painted huge number of armies on commissions in the past, and worked in far smaller quantities than Neil does, but I cost a lot more. I sent customers to him even when I was still paitning full time & now I'm not, I'd certainly advise his service all the more! :D

The "Painting Night" or "Social Painting" thing people are talking about are good ideas. There are a few people who stop by my FLGS and paint together (I find it distracting) but others get so much done it's unreal.

Of course playing with unpainted models is alright, if you're not into painting, but you should at least coat them with a color, or spray them with a color primer so it's not just gray or metal on the table.

That being said, I never miss an opportunity to make fun of an opponent for fielding unpainted stuff :D

I hated painting, I really did, but forced myself to sit down and do it.

Now it's one of the ways I relax.

I'm sort of the opposite - playing makes me want to paint. I get tired of seeing my half-assed models on the board.

That said, for Fantasy, I generally paint the front ranks to high quality and do a lightweight job on the filler models.

I entered a local tourney run by some friends, and now have two weeks to finish an army that I begun collecting six years ago. Progress have been very good the last three weeks.

If it is possible, tourneys are the way to force you to the painting table.

Sometimes...there have been times when I had to do a quicker/rushed job than I wanted.

I hate seeing that to Neal, I just get depress though as my models never look as good as I picture in my mind. *Sigh*

Well, to be honest, I try to find a good compromise between my ambitions and the standards needed. At the moment, I just try to rush through my army, completing the first two steps of my painting: base colouring and the first wash. Then I can finish the units at leisure to my standards. An entire army being half-painted is still more fun for my opponent than a blur of basecoated miniatures.
