Is there anything in any of the fiction where a space marine has an affair? It seems an 8' tall genetically modified supersoldier with an endocrine system jacked through the roof would have a certain level of testosterone-driven interest in the fairer sex. I just can't recall anything that addresses the issue. |

I haven't read them but I remember someone saying that William King's Space Wolves had harems in his books. Nothing I've read has said that Space Marines don't have the equipment, but then again I haven't read anything that says they do. Most 40k fiction doesn't deal with the dark and sultry 41st millennium though. Whether that's for atmosphere, to keep mom's happy or to not upset little Billy with that fact that Marneus Calgar has kissed a girl and he hasn't, I can't say. Abnett has a little bit in his books, but that's all I can recall. |

Wow. I googled a bit and apparently Space Marine sex is a pretty darn common topic. Buncha pervy gamers that need girlfriends, I suppose. Anyway... Apparently, there is a reference to "chem-geld" in one of the books about Space Wolves and some question as to whether it works for them. Also, in one of the UM books, one of the marines reflects on the lack of family after discovering the IG troopers are fighting desperately because they are trying to save their families. It seems the answer is that along with the rest of the biomanipulation, the sex drive is suppressed or removed. So much for the "romantic interest" storyline. |

Quite sensible on GW's part; the majority of their customers disappear when they "discover girls". No point in putting the idea in their heads... |

I remember somewhat contentious debates on the rec.games.miniatures.warhammer newsgroup (back 12-odd years ago now) about whether SMs had fully operational equipment. Of course, a similar discussion focused on if there were any female-equivalent gene-modification projects in the imperium. As far as I know, I don't think there is anything official on the matter. I am of the opinion, however, that given the small numbers of space marines (1 million, give or take) and the large number of active conflicts in the galaxy, a SM just doesn't have the time for it. Anyway, I hear it effects your sperm count, so that may also play into it. I guess love, viking-style might work, but that tends to focus on very short term relationships, what with all the pillaging they have to fit in in the same time frame. And don't even get started on what the emperor's children get into. |

back in one of the SM1/Titan Legions rule books a rather good looking dark angel on parade gives a cheeky wink to a resting warhound crew member...most odd! |

I always assumed that Space Marines had their wedding tackle removed or replaced with upgraded components. I bet they never need to urinate and they "reproduce" via the gene seed, so what's the point of doing it like normal humans. Astartes culture and life style is based on the "warrior monk" stereotype. Given that, I imagine that a life of devout celibacy (with the occasional bout of clandestine astartes-on-astartes action) is the most likely scenario. |

I was lucky enough to get a tour of the Raptors Battle Barge 2 years ago when it last patrolled our solar system. The chief Librarian took me on a tour of the ship and told me that each Space Marine has two female human sex bunnies in his quarters and that the Space Marines also follow some sort of daily ritual, and as far as I can recall, it went something like this; 0330 - Wake and have two quickies (15 minutes for each chic). 0400 - Morning Prayer - Led by the Company Chaplain the Space Marines renew their oaths to the Emperor and the company relics are displayed. This time is also used to give out orders, announcements and other administrative tasks. 0430 - Have breakfast and brag about your 0330-0400 exploits. 0500 - Morning Firing Rites - The Space Marines engage in target practice with their personal and squad weaponry, awards and punishments are dispensed for consistently good or poor accuracy respectively. 0700 - Battle Practice - Generally this is close quarters oriented, however live fire or hazardous environment training may be done instead (or as well). 1100- A 1 hour slap and tickle session with one of their chics (alternating chics from one day to the next - otherwise they'll get too jealous). 1200 - Midday Prayer - In addition to prayer any injured Space Marines can report to the Apothecary. 1300 - Midday Meal - Normally local wildlife killed during the morning activities. 1315 - Tactical Indoctrination - This can take many forms, from information on a new alien species or technology to strategy. A debrief of the morning's battle is common as well. 1500 - Battle Practice - This focuses more on combined tactics in conjunction with vehicles, Dreadnoughts and devastator squads and normally includes a trial of a new tactic introduced during the tactical indoctrination. 2000 - Evening Prayer - In addition to prayer, gene-seed testing may occur at this point. 2030 - A quick nookie after a boring prayer session. 2100 - Evening Meal - A feast (by normal human standards) is provided by the Chapter serfs, and some Chapter Masters may allow alcohol to be consumed. 2130 - Night Firing Exercises - If the chapter is based on a planet where there is no perceptible night or they are based on a fleet, firing exercises are under taken in exotic environments such as underwater, through dense fog or smoke or in zero gravity. 2315 - Maintenance Rituals - Each Space Marine is expected to maintain his own power armour and weapons, and it is often checked by the Chapter's Techmarines. 2345 - Free Time - Space Marines are permitted this time to reflect upon their duty to The Emperor.......ah, or a quick 15 minute bumping of uglies before bed. 0000 - Rest Period - Space Marines are allocated 3 1/2 hours in which to sleep. |
