Right now, its Just a random thought,
building off of my topic on TMP here:
http://theminiaturespage.com/boards/msg.mv?id=183424
Don't have time to develop the thought this second...

BUT!

I want to seriously think about it,
for long-term consideration, cause, Y'know:
28mm is fun to paint, too.
Something to make you go "Hmmmmmmmmm...."

There's a couple of us around here who are trying to play 2nd ed 40K, but I think we might end up just playing Necro again.  RT wasn't all that much fun to play as I recall...particularly for the Orks, Squats and IG....stupid Virus grenades.

Hrm... I know 2nd ed tournaments in our area used to ban Virus. The grenades in general made for a ridiculous time. I had a Harlequin list that would spam Smoke into the field and wait, then mince up anything that would come out. I would also use War Walkers as walking melta bombs, charging enemy units and inevitably blowing up in some spectacular manner that would destroy a whole unit. It was pretty silly.

There are a lot of things 5th edition did to appease me. I've collected all the old books all over again in an attempt to revive 2nd ed in our area, but I forgot all the problems I had with it in the first place... so really, I've been drawn more to Fantasy in these years, if only because Chaos marines got the flavor sucked right outta them.

Since last year Zap and I have probably played about five 40k 2nd ed games. Most have been fairly small (up to 1000pts) and have generally been fun to play. Most games have featured Guard vs Guard or Guard vs marines.

Shortly we should have some stealer cult and chaos forces to add to the mix.

I think if a "Net" 40k was to get up off the ground, 2nd edition might be a better start point.

Orks had the sniffer squig to get past assassins and also another card to get past the virus I believe.

It has been so long. Those days were fun.

2nd edition 40K seems to have something of a cult following. Here are some links to a few session reports I wrote for BGG last year.

Could be interesting,

My self & my usual group have more or less switched back to Rogue Trader nowadays.

More info can be found on my Blog: http://www.warpedreality.wordpress.com

So why not see if you can find a group willing to play 2nd ed?

Because my time and effort is now Epic/BFG/FoW driven...

And the only ppl around are kids with there happy over powered SM. Or my friends that play Epic/BFG/FoW. And I don't have all my 2nd Ed stuff anymore...

I'd be very happy to see a RT/2nd Ed hybrid system, and there are even aspects of 4th/5th Ed that bear considering for inclusion in such a project.

Yes me to,

I have done some work on such a system 3-4 months ago but then work got in the way. I might start again.

Basically I was looking at something like:

2nd ed core rules with RT hand to hand or similar
Streamlined physic phase using a similar system to warhammer magic
Combo of 4th/5th ed style missions - greater focus on troops + 6 turns allows for alternate approaches and more likely to produce and obvious result
Upgraded army lists to take in all the cool new stuff.

One thing that would be nice is to remove the referrences to how the strength of a weapon affects the save modifier value, and instead just have the save modifier value listed on the weapon stat line.

I know that the weapon stat line already has the save mod value listed, but I recall that it was sometimes confusing whether or not that was supposed to be in addition to the strength-based save modifier.

Also, if this was geared specifically toward killteam sized squads, then I would probably play. A universal Necromunda, if you will.

When I get around to it I'll be using ambush alleys sic-fi mod for my 28mm gaming.

Mephiston,

Have you had a look at the AA TW rules yet? I know Zap has got them for me as I can't DL much where I am now but I'm yet to read them. Hopefully if they arrive hardcopy in the mail soon.

I did like the force on force rule set.

Are they're any sci-fi bat reps up yet?
