Hey again good people,

I was wondering about when the Leman Russ first came into 40k. I remember there was a how-to on a Baneblade scratchbuild in some old WD pretty far back. Was there ever something like that for the Leman Russ, or was it "invented" in epic-scale first?

Any help is as always much appreciated!

Leman Russ first appeared in the 1st edition Space Marine game, IIRC in the same WD article as the IG army list. In 40k it appeared in the 2nd edition looking pretty much as it does now. As far as I know there has not been an article in WD about making one, which is a pity as I'd love to have a 40k version of the mk1 Russ. I'm just  too lazy to make up the templates myself.

The FW Malcador (Battlecannon variant in particular) always struck me as fairly similar to the Mk1 Russ. The FW guys have often looked at older Epic models when they did stuff, so I'd be surprised if they haven't been even the slightest bit inspired.

Before the Leman Russ, Chimera, etc..  the IG used the Predator and Rhino for their vehicles.

Hmmm... So there would be a good idea to try to scratchbuild a 40k mk1 leman russ... Tempting
