As my heretical investigations delve deeper into the background of Those Who Dwell within the Eye of Terror, a thought occured to me:
Where are the Librarians, Apothacaries and Tech-marines of the thrice damned Rebel Legions? ?The Chaplains were killed, except in the Word Bearers of course, but what about the others?
I suppose the Librarians as psykers became possessed, but surely somebody looks after the geneseed of the fallen and maintains their vehicles and weapons. ?yes I know that they dont have the same level of medicare cover that a loyalst marine gets, and that possessed vehicles dont need as much love (and IW are presumably big on maintaining their seige equipment) - but has this been addressed before in the fluff?
cheers Tas

No, I've never heard anything about those dudes.
Librarians probably became possessed and/or Tzeentch worshippers, as you said.
Apothecaries...no idea here. They probably still exist, although i could imagine them becoming similiar to lots of little Fabius Biles. lightning rods, Bits stitched together and lots of "mad scientist bwahaha"stuff.
Techmarines... perhaps they developed an understanding of how to coax daemons into vehicles, teach them to repair themselves etc. again, pretty "Mad scientist Bwahaha" after ten thousand years in the Eye of Terror.
These are only my own ideas, nothing official here.

Techmarines practically rule the Iron Warriors. Iron within, iron without! (although in my case it would be iron within, cash without...)

Librarians probably became possessed and/or Tzeentch worshippers, as you said. | Ahriman was the Chief Librarian of Thousand sons so I'd assume you are correct.
As for apothecaries, IIRC the Traitor legions are nowadays dependent of Mr. Bile for their gene-seed operations so I'd guess they just aren't around anymore?

Hi!
I think they aren't that necessary since CSM are virtually immortal in the eye of terror and casualties result from battle, not natural causes.

PS re Librarians - oh I forgot, Mojarn and Fleetmaster are right - almost: Thousand Sons librarians became sorcerers of Tzeentch; the rest became sorcerers of Slaanesh/Nurgle/Tzeentch/Chaos Undivided. I'd assume the World Eatre Librarians were given the axe early on.... No idea about the docs - I think one of them became Primarch.....

"As for apothecaries, IIRC the Traitor legions are nowadays dependent of Mr. Bile for their gene-seed operations so I'd guess they just aren't around anymore?"
This is where what GW says is made to sound cool rather than be realistic. Suppose a Chaos Marine (lets call him Joe)gets a bolter round in his leg and it penetrates the flesh, causing some fairly nasty internal damage. Making new CSMs is pretty tricky according to the fluff, and Joe's injury isn't going to heal by itself, even with his augmented metabolism. He may well never be able to walk again if it isn't dealt with, and I just can't see CSMs in wheelchairs. Assuming he isn't a member of a far gone legion like the World Eaters or Death Guard, I doubt that his fellow marines are going to let him die, not because they're nice people, but because if they always do this then soon they'll have to go off and nick some more geneseed from Mars to make some new Joes.
Not that CSMs don't like shooting servants of the false Emperor, but infiltrating the chambers where the gene-seed is stored doesn't sound easy to me. So the apothecaries probably still exist, because even marines get injured sometimes and you can't always go running for Mr Bile.
Loyalist apothecaries (IMHO) are more than geneseed recovery dudes, they see to all the chapters medical needs. Most loyalist chapters would get depleted pretty sharpish if apothecaries only recovered geneseed, and its easier to keep an inducted, skilled marine alive than to go and look for a new, unskilled initiate. It would be even harder for CSMs to find a new initiate who isn't too mutated or insane.
This isn't meant to be a rant, so I apologise if it sounds like one

This is something that I have wondered about for a while. My CSM legion has Dark Apothicaries and cursed TechMarines (always my favourite specialist). These two guys work together to create a Chaos equivalent to Servitors, often with Librarians helping out to possess the weapons that are grafted on. One day I will actually have to put this legion into 40K.
Another posibility is that these guys are actually very useful and valued, and so are kept away from the front line more.

We only have a Chaos Sorcerer (Lib.) stand for all Powers but Khorne, (using the fig from the E40K sprue) and we are thinking about having Cypher as a Chaplin ... Otherwise we'll have to see if S/G does an Epic Chaos Character set ... if I live that long !
