Whereas the kind of level of advice I wanted was if I was to add a new unit of Chaos Warriors with Mark of Khorne, should I go with shields, additional weapons or halberds.

Always go with shields on all warriors for the save against shooting, and for khorne Halberds or Great weapons are the better options than additional hand weapons. 3 attacks at Strength 5/6 is much better than 4 attacks at strength 4.

Good point on the shields.

What about if I was also thinking about a unit of Warriors with Mark of Slaanesh?

Unless I have miscounted I think I have enough warriors for a 12 strong unit (with MoS) and also for a 16 strong unit (with Mok). Unit sizes are fixed as multiples of Patron's number- may not be points optimal but it is fluffy!!

But the point is that once I start painting up the Warriors I wont be able to claim that they have a different Mark- hopefully it will be obvious once painted whether they are Khornate or Slaaneshi!!

So I need how best to equip the 2 units beforehand. I could play safe and go for hand weapon and shield on both. But I also want a bit of variety, both tactically on the tabletop and also to keep my interest when I am painting them.

So for example when I get around to doing a Slaaneshi Marauder unit they will have flails. Firstly because I dont currently have a Chaos Undivided Marauder unit with flails and secondly because I think it would fit well- I could see Slaanesh approving of flails whereas Khorne would probably prefer a big axe!!

Cheers

James

Hi Colin

Actually my point was that I did nt want a min maxed list. I just wanted advice on sensible combinations of weapons/armour/Marks.

Yes I realised this, I share the same outlook!

I think you are running into the thing that I've always been leery about in getting back into warhammer. It seems tricky to run army lists that are based on fluff without the lists being criticised as not being "powerful".

Its a shame as IMO one of the strengths of warhammer and its powerful heros should be an ability to immerse in the fantasy fluff over competition (the other should be not taking it too seriously!).

I've luckily avoided the whole dilemma as by all accounts its impossible to build a powerful beasts army (certianly with the figs I've got!) :)

(I just finished a herd. Only 100 more beasts to go!)

Excellent.

More beasts for the culling!!

I am going to ask Lawrie to give me a reintroduction game, focussing on those things that have changed in WFB 7th edition. Let me know if you fancy one of those army patrol games- I think they were 400 points.

Cheers

James
