Not having any 3D sculpting skills or Computer skills for that matter ![]() I am after some information on 3D files, I am after some minatures in 28mm. Basically you know the files for charectors for computer games i.e the renderings can these be used to 3d print things ? It for legacy of Kain series, many may not know it ![]() collection, Just wondering if it can be done from renderings already out on the net by fans. I want most of the charectors so having them commissioned in greenstuff would be crazy plus I only commission 6mm ![]() Regards epic |

Yes it possible to rip and print most 3d models from games. I've has printed a few models from Dawn of War in epic size just to try if it was possible. You might need some kind of convertor from the games 3d model format to a standard format. If you are going to print a character you probably need to pose it in a 3d editor also. |

be aware that on older games the poly count on the models will be low, with a lot of the detail only present on the skin/texture. This means that, if you print the model, details that were only 'drawn on' the skin wont print. |

What Apoc said. Ideally you need to convert the files to .stl format to make them printable. Also you must make sure that the model consists only of closed surfaces |

Cheers for the input guys, pleased it may be do able, the rest of the words means nothing to me regarding files etc, I know how to connect to the internet and use spreadsheets that's it, oh and ebay also ![]() I sort of get what you mean though about details just been drawn on the model though, will have a closer look at some of the renderings on the web, some of the fan made stuff looks awesome think a lot of the drawings are from aspiring games designers. Cheers guys much appreciated regards epic |

Just to make sure... Obviously to 3D print you need a 3D model. In games and animated films you would make a 3D wireframe model of a character, which is then textured and animated. Each frame is rendered into a 2D image for the screen. So a 2D rendering (an image) would be no good, and nor would a 2D image drawn digitally (e.g. in Photoshop). |
