So last week I had a day off because I was feeling like crap. Eventually daytime TV got to be too much and I took to aimlessly wandering around on the internet. My meandering course eventually brought me to this concept piece of art from forgeworld.

Image

It struck a chord with me and with nothing better to do I thought I'd have a bash at seeing if I could re-create it in Sketchup, particularly as 3D printing and CAD have been in the news so much lately. Without anything to work/measure from other than this 3/4 angle pic I had a lot of free reign so I made it bigger than the macharis hull I believe it should have been based on. It's now roughly the same size a s a FW baneblade, this is because if I ever can get it printed I'd like it to represent a minoris with quake cannon. The plan would be to use the same chassis to create a second design with a huge comms dish and use it as a counts as carapace landing pad to grant indirect fire to the detachment.

I'm not too sure what the purpose of the anchor things would be, but it my mind I'm considering them to be generating an above normal gravitic attraction to anchor the machine and minimise energy dissipation through recoil. A sort of anti-anti-grav.

I've made it in several components, gun, hull, tracks and anchors.

As you can see I still have the back to finish but I'm running out of inspiration. Covering the breach with a hatch looks fairly boring and would lose the flavour of the thing (huge gun with a vehicle built around it) but I can't really see a way of supporting the spindly frame otherwise.

The one thought I had was to model a shell being inserted which would beef things up, any other thoughts or comments. I'd love to hear from you experienced guys as I'm still relatively new to this type of thing.

It's almost like that's the only Minoris that exists. :-P

How about making the hull so that with plug-ins it could be any Minoris?

Huh, I always interpreted that as a Malcador or Minotaur.

Awesome supergun i like it. I think you need to design a shell loading/carrying vehicle to go with it, maybe like the WWII pzIV
that was used with the karl mortar units.

Pssst! CST made it, not me.

Edit - brief thread hijack. Mexican immigrants here in Texas have a strange custom wherein they "hiss" (or a "pssst" sound) to pretty women. I'm not sure if this is some sort of compliment or surreptitious mating call, but it happens to Yen a lot. She then proceeds to shout at them that she's Asian.

my first thought was that it might be a closed-topped bombard, what with the tracks looking leman russ-shaped, although the cabin looks like it would make the vehicle much bigger, unless the slits are eye slits rather than whole windows.....

edit: looking at the handles on the shell hatch puts it at leman russ scale to my eyes......

If that were the case, it would look cool with an accompanying Trojan dangling a shell.

Looks very cool. If that was Malcador sized then it would be an interesting model- we have loads of Leman Russ variant chassis but always great to get more variety on other chassis. Would be very cool as the basis of Minoris chassis- even better if you can do modular design to cope wit several variants as suggested by E&C.

Those of us with little or no scratchbuilding ability, which definitely includes myself, would certainly welcome any such Minoris.

Cheers

James

The size can be judged from the first rendering as i believe that right of the breach is a driver access door, am i right?

And it looks like it has double track sections too.

My thoughts exactly. Need Minoris chassis!

Cheers for comments guys, I've made some progress with this initial design but it's all on my computer so pics later. What has got me thinking is all the talk of producing a generic design.

Does anybody know of a reason why I cant share my save files around? If I modified the hull to a more generic shape would anybody be interested in taking on various weapons and/or modifications?

The reason being that I have no real interest in developing much more as my needs will be fulfilled by the 3 which I intend to print, but if others are interested I think it would be cool to throw it out for community input . It's all designed in sketchup which is free and probably the easiest/simplest package out there. It could be a great way for people interested in this type of thing to cut their teeth, just as I did.

It's a bit of a pipe dream but conceivably it should be possible to create an entire army based on an open source approach, which I think would be a really neat idea.
