Not to beat this dead horse into dog food, but I believe a pretty healthy slave trade took place in the Ukraine via the Russ. The Scandinavian Vikings were big on the slave trade.
Most cultures, everywhere, at one time or another practice(d) some form of slavery. Those Apple factories in China don't have 'suicide nets' under the roof top just for kicks.
