In the meantime, a little update with the heavy transport!

Opinions? :D

really like it. Easy to build parts to slot in as a fuel tanker, a mass conveyor, q-ship, etc

Yes, that's the idea! For now I've made a generic cargo "battery" and a fuel "battery", and the aim is to make more!

I'm toying with the idea of making "army deployment" batteries, with 2\4 dropship tethers each, like the ones on Hawk Wargames' diorama at this year's Salute!

Hmm, you'd either need to make a way larger ship, or way smaller dropships. I've been toying with the idea last night, and well...the problem is the different scales. Meaning you'd either make your ship about 10 times bigger, or make the dropships/fighters/etc around 10 times smaller.

Which reminds me, you should really do some fighters and such again, I'm very curious what you'll do now. I mean, the ones you posted on the first page of this thread already look great, but you've really improved over the months. ;)

Well, the idea would be that the dropships are much larger that the fighters, bombers and assault boats, as they are basically large troop transports meant for atmospheric entry, so they would be in scale with the ship being roughly 1 cm long..

About ordnance, you're right, I should do some... Some times ago I made some Space Miner and Cosmic Pharaoh ordnance, but I think I didn't post any pictures yet, did I?

Hmm, gigantic dropships, kinda like the Devourer Dropship?

Even cooler is the Cateceus Class Transport, which carries multiple Devourers:

Very curious about your Space Miner and Cosmic Pharaoh stuff, please post them! Speaking of Space Miners, did you see these?

Yes, devourer sized dropship were the idea!

A quick update before I go: WIP optional (separate) humongous cranes! To break the profile a bit...

Hmm, those cranes are huge, immediately makes me think of those old Space Fleet era ships with huge claws and such.

Yeah, in hindsight perhaps they are too big... I'm thinking I could thin out the arms a bit, leaving the joints as they are, and see how they turn out....

Ok, here are a couple alternatives for thinning the crane arms.

Making them hollow:

Or making them thinner:

Right now I'm liking more option 2, what do you guys think?

In the meantime, here's some pictures of my Alien Miners and Cosmic Pharaohs ordnance!

Alien Miners first; from left to right, fighters, bombers and assault boats:

The idea is that they are mining drone equipment repurposed for war.

The fighters are prospector drones, maneuvrable as they have to navigate asteroid fields, and with a small prospector laser that is more that enough to take down other ordnance:

Attachment:
DSCN0504.JPG

The bombers are mining engines, meant to latch onto a vessel's hull while the large central plasma drills bore through to the juicy bits:

Attachment:

The assault boats are haul drones, that instead of precious materials carry swarms of smaller mining robots, and have been refitted with smaller frontal lasers to access the outermost areas of a vessel.

Then there are the Cosmic Pharaohs fighters, that I trust need less explanations :)

I've also made some Cosmic Pharaohs bombers, but I didn't manage to paint them yet...

Jesus H Christ...those look amazing!

I tried making some Cosmic Pharaoh fighters like that a while back but tried to go all rounded/curved/organic with the design which basically totally messed up its geometry, thus becoming impossible to print, but this looks so simple yet amazing!

Are these all available at your shop yet?

Thank you!

I'm planning to put them on sale today, I had kind of forgotten about them... Although the cosmic pharaohs fighters might be a bit too "dangerous", if you catch my meaning...

I'm a bit afraid about the miner fighters, they printed perfectly but they have very this antennas, and Shapeways could be a bit annoying about them...

In other news, someone HAS to convert the new Gorkanaut in a true scale epic Meg-Gargant. That someone might be me, still not sure.

I was about to suggest cranes on a spacecraft were silly and then I remembered NASA's space shuttle uses a sort of crane thing to deploy things in space and felt silly.

Cool work and I await the Mega Gargant :)
