I did some poking around. Shapeways claims that the layer thickness on Frosted Ultra Detail is 29 microns.

These guys claim 25 microns (where smaller is better).

Nah. I'm going to wait a year for resolution and reliability to go up. And funds.

I'm all in. March2013 is my dock date.

Resolution will be improved by laser spot size and the angle at which it hits the resin. I would guess a software patch and aperture is all that would be required to reduce the laser beam's spot size.

Perhaps it could be worth one of us posting a comment on the kickstarter, saying we're potentially interested in buying one, but only if the level of fined detail it can print becomes smaller again? They may not realise people want or need detail that small.

I am going to buy one of these as a gift for some of my engineers (we give out quarterly prices for strong contributors). So we will know in a few months how well it works...

So it sounds like minimum part witch is 0.3mm, with .025mm stepping, if I have my micron decimal places right?? %^^& count me in. Going to lobby to get one at work!

My Portugeuse friend in Sydney might save up and buy one of these in a couple of months, he's been wanting a 3d printer for a while to print novel musical instruments, with preciseness and construction not possible with conventional techniques.

If he does I could use it to print new models and add-on parts, perhaps entire armies. I haven't looked into the details but is it known how resilient the matter prints are? Would I be able to matter print models to directly paint and game with or would they need to be moulded and cast afterwards

According to their various blogs and blurbs, they're experimenting with a range of resin types. Eventually they should concoct onto something suitable.

Heh heh. Concoct.
