Concerning wings:

What do you think about these?

They are 22mm long and 9mm tall, and have a slot on the back 1.2mm tall to fit the tip of the plastic wings...

It would be only necessary to remove the lights and shave some of the "circuitry" at the tip of the plastic wing...

Opinins\suggestions\insults?

Happy almost new year, by the way!

Nice. Been thinking of how to attach them to the plastic gothic patter wings. Figure there needs to be a griblie that the shaved wing can slot onto on the bits

Hi there,

I think I can see where your doubts come from...

I whipped up a "hyper detailed" 3d rendition of the tip of a plastic cruiser wing, to see if I can help (ok, it's not hyper detailed).

Here you can see in blue the part that has been carved (or would have been carved, if this was a real model):

And here you can see how the extra component fits on the shaved wing:

Let me know if this doesn't make any sense (and it's most likely)!

Awesome stuff but gonna be pricy with shapeway. Any chance to look for casters and kickstart this?

Hmm, but if you're gonna cast them, I wouldn't print them at Shapeways. But then again, do you have the time/resources/skills/connections to go down that route?

Hi there!

Unfortunately this is a hobby for me, and I don't have the time or resources for managing orders, production and delivery of the models myself, so it's most likely this will stay at shapeways!

All in all, though, printed of shapeways a single complete cruiser would be around 25 euros, while a weaponless one around 20 euros; that's not much more than what a metal cruiser did cost from GW, I think, and if sold in lots of 2 they would cost even less...

Great ships, really!

Could you possibly tell me size of these frigates? Are they comparable to grandma wendy's ships of their class and size?

Thank you and
ALL AHEAD FULL

Hi khorgor,

Thank you! Yes, they're designed to be in compatible size! If there's one specific ship you'd like to know the dimensions of, just let me know!

Hey everyone, a little update!

In keeping with the space merchant theme, here's a light cruiser, whose crew is quite undaunted!

With prow lances:

And with prow torpedo bays:

As always, comments are welcome!

Man, you're getting better and better at it!

I know what you mean, I'm a bit in the same predicament! I'm looking for a possible external partner who might be interested in my miniatures for that very reason.

Hmm, the main problem is that your product still looks inferior to what GW released. Not saying that your designs are bad! I believe your ships are on par to the stuff that GW (and even FW) have released. So the quality of your designs isn't the problem. The main problem lies in the quality of the print. Shapeways' printers just aren't able (yet) to deliver the kind of quality that will really do justice to your models, which is a real shame. Because of that, it becomes a bit difficult to justify rates that are equal, if not higher, to what GW charge.

I think you're starting to run into the limits of what's possible at the moment. So whilst designwise you can go crazier and crazier (which I would love to see), the quality of the print, and the costs, are really holding you back.

I know this comes from another thread, but it kinda relates to the point I'm trying to make here. :P

I'm running into similar problems for my Ork ship. To truly do the model justice, I'd need to have it printed elsewhere, which would be quite expensive, meaning I'd have to cast and sell it in order for it to make any sense.

Think you're going to have trouble with that tower. You should connect it to the hull.

Are we going to endeavor to make some other version too? Something with spacecraft and another with big lasers? ;)

Thank you guys!

Malika, I kinda see what you mean, especially for the price thing...

I mean, all the prints that I received in FUD are of a very good quality, as the only "striping" effect that I found was on large flat surfaces that ended up being the connection points between the pieces; the price point is a bit high, though, and this is indeed bound to be a turnoff for many...

For the moment, though, I'm just happy I can share my designs with the community!

Your ork ships are awesome, by the way, although I'm afraid the latest one will be a nightmare to cast in resin! ;)

Jimmy, endure some more, there will be definitely more mind-defying endeavors on that front! (ok, I'll see myself out....)

I'm not sure what you mean about the tower, is is about the stability of the piece, or did I inadvertently put some weird symbolism on the model?

Man...the casting thing, now that you mention it...damn! Back to the drawing table it is!

Well, you don't have to scratch it completely!

One thing that I would do to make it easier to cast is making each of the front guns separate; if you give all of them the same kind of mounting point (i.e. a square peg), you could allow for endless combinations! You could also later on make weapon add-on sprues with different weapons....
