Post subject:  War in the Old World (3mm scale Microworld)

The 3mm forum has been quiet for far too long. So has the Old World. But that is changing! The High Elves of the Ten Kingdoms of Ulthuàn have landed on the southwest coast in numbers it was thought impossible for them to muster - not mere dozens or scores, but in their hundreds! Something is definitely happening when High Elves go about their business in such a fashion. Perhaps it has to do with rumors of a new Orc warlord in the South, uniting the tribes, one at a time. Surely some revelation is at hand for the kingdoms of the Old World. For now, the Empire, Kislev, Brettonia, Araby... they watch, wait, and if they’re smart, make their preparations a for war on a scale not seen for a thousand years.

Which is to say of course that I’m super stoked about the 3mm scale fantasy line from Microworld Games. After a little trial and error and some fussing about I have my first unit based up and ready for primer. The visuals at this scale are simply unbeatable and Microworld has outdone themselves in detail and character.

Rules will be Warmaster. All the units are based at slightly below standard: 1 1/4” frontage and 5/8” depth, which for those of you using the metric system is about 32mm x 16mm.

Thanks man! These are a real pleasure to work with. The metal is soft enough to cut without damage and the sculpts are unique and very flavorful. They also take to modding a fair bit, which I’ve relied on to fill out the ranks on my chosen Warmaster bases. Gives a terrific effect en masse.

This is not a dead project! Quite the opposite in fact. Several game rule sets and a lot of painting later, my armies are finally beginning to take their final shape! This really shows why 3mm scale can be so incredibly appealing: you get these wonderful, "true-to-life" gigantic epic armies to play with!

Those look tremendous. What size battlefield would you play on?

It'll be 24 x 36" for starters I think. If the humidity drops today, I'll be priming some small village tiles for this purpose, and Angel Barracks is making me some very pro-grade forests. The hills, rivers, etc. are all Geo-Hex tiles a friend gave me last year.
