Due to captPiett posting all that cold war 6mm armour I ended up buying a couple of packs of 3mm scifi … that relationship made sense at the time. Anyway, did quick test paint job on a couple of MBTs to see how they look. There are 'M76 McAuliffe MBT' scale vs epic: ![]() company strength: ![]() details (really need to have these based to paint properly, awkward to hold by hand and paint them): ![]() ![]() ![]() Im pretty taken by these . 20p a tank. Only two real downsides: 1) the range is pretty small, and aside from some hammer's slammers style hover-tanks 'scifi' pretty much means 2020 tank wise (T-14 armata sort of shapes, nothing more exotic). 2) the fillet between the cannon and the hull is annoying … if they'd been moulded side-to-side not top-to-bottom it wouldn't be needed (if they smoothed out the underside). While in the pictures it looks like you could file it out, the metal is very sharp and brittle, end of the gun snapped off when i tried. Scale on the McAuliffe is spot on for 1:600 scale if you use contemporary MBT as a scale guide. I also got a pack of artillery, which are a similar size, and a pack of fire support vehicles which for some reason are larger than the MBT … |

Beautiful work! And as a shameless O8 booster, and 3mm scale booster generally, I'm glad to see someone new giving it a go! The sci Fi line is small at the moment, but still growing. He just released a new hover artillery vehicle to complement the pseudo-Slammers line he has going. And you simply can't beat it for value. Setting up an armored battalion costs less than $10. |

Yep – I *had* to buy a battalion just to reach minimum order value ![]() I saw you use OGRE miniatures rules, how are they working out? what sort of level of combat do they represents, 1 mini = platoon? company? I'm impressed by the running gear detail as well. I'd like to try scratch-building some at somepoint and the running gear is the only bit i can't suss in my head. |

Ogre Miniatures is 1 tank = 1 tank, and 1 soldier = 1 squad. It's super easy to learn and play - almost TOO easy. For quick miniatures play it's hard to beat. I also am partial to Strike Legion Tactical and Dirtside II, especially the latter given its emphasis on morale and integrated combined arms. At 3mm scale, Ogre works well without any modifications, or if you have limited space scale down by converting to metric at 1" = 1cm. This trick works very well for Dirtside and SLT, as well, and means you can have a pretty decent mass battle on a 3' x 3' space. You're actually inspiring me to finish an unfinished 3mm scale unit I've had on hold for a long time. |
