I live in Texas and am about 45 minutes to an hours drive from the closest GW shop in Grapevine Mills and they only play BFG on wednesdays what with that schedule of theirs.  Anyhoo, I wanted to have an opponent  and since the three brothers who have been my gaming group untill recently have moved, I set to getting a friend hooked on the game which I succeeded in.  He now is collecting an IN fleet.  But just by knowing some of his buds and talking about our game and mentioning it at a local comic book store, I find myself having 4 or 5 people interested in the game and generally congregating at my apartment to play it.  I think that somehow I started a brand new gaming group without even knowing it.  Now I have a budding IN, Tyranid, Necron and an undecided player to take under wing.  Steadily they are picking up the rules and getting the hang of it- I think next time we get together I will introduce AC into the game (up till now it's been IN vs Chaos gunships.)

So what are everyone's thoughts?  Have you guys had this phenomena happen to you as well?  Any stories to tell in addition to this?

Good to hear. Same thing has slowly been happening where I am with BFG and Epic. :)

I have found that BFG has a large 'underground' fan base over here (UK). Go into almost any GW store and ask about it and you will get the reply that most of the shop staff have a fleet.

Good work Zhai.

I really wonder what happens if the rumours are true and GW decides to push BFG a little. Even if it is with Space Marines.

Too bad the new rulebook update is a real flawed one.

Ufff... i have played BFG and Epic, and i don't really know why most people like it so much... maybe i have a bad impression because the players in my area decided that they were not using the "ran out of ammunition/fighters/bombers/whatever in the event of rolling double", so in the end most of the fights were like pacific war engagements, with most ships being destroyed by massed hordes of bombers before they could get close enough to use their batteries...
Have you & your mates tried Epic Armageddon? :D

That's bad if they played like that. The new ordnance rules are a big improvement.

BFG is better, really  :;):

Can't say we have tried Epic Armageddon or any of the other EPIC stuff.  I figure getting them hooken on one game for starters is good.  Plus why command an army when you can command the ship that could wipe out all life on the planet?

Though I must confess considering getting into Epic or AI with focus on Eldar or Tau (my favorite races overall).
