I was always wondering about that, what is BFG scale? Is it true there really isn't one specifically due to need for actual display vs. visual appeal? |

I dont think is has a true scale. Some of the larger BattleSips are supost to be 5 miles long ![]() Not much can be done about the latter, after all, you need to be able to see your modelz. I think its a shame the larger BattleShips are so small. Id personly like to see them at least twice as big... but then they would cost more to buy. |

You could always convert battleships etc to make them look bigger, sort of similar to what modellers of Space Marines do with "true scale" |

If u wanted a much truer scale then BattleShipa would need to be around 18" long, with cruisers about 10" long, then the escorts would be more in scale with the BattleShips. But then ud be outa scale with everyone else u play ![]() And stuff like Planets would need a football field to sit on ? ![]() |

(malika @ Oct. 12 2006,12:47) QUOTE Thank you all for your comments! I guess BFG doesn't really have a defining scale, just visual enough to look good but don't cost much. Though malika's pic is somewhat close to scale if using the tiny fighters TH and fightabombers of FW. |

The game rules, however, do have a scale. The game is played at 1:100.000.000 The back of the book states that you can say that 1 cm on the table is roughly a thousand kilomtres in space. That would also make holy terra a small planet, due to it being roughly 12 cm. Also, this makes terrainbuilding easier, as you now know how big stuff is (also, why stars are not represented in the game except by a table side because stars are at least thirty feet in diameter). Well the real question I have is how big would starships would be in 2mm as I am working on some 2mm sci-fi minis and I was wondering if the bfg is to scale in 2mm |

Ive started the same topic over at the Waaagh. My opening post is this... This is a very interesting site Im sure a few of you have seen anyway... http://www.merzo.net/ Under -10X it shows the Imperial Retribution Class Battleship BloodHawk and measures it at a massive 7.5KM in length. This sounds about right to me and certainly follows the fluff. But now lets look at the Cobra Class Destroyer BlackSkull. Its an escort, but measures in a 1.5km in length. Look further down and you will see its almost the same size as the StarWars Star Destroyer. and more than twice the size of the BattleStar Galactica! Does this sound right? Well to me it surely doesnt. If you asume that all the ships in BFG are in scale with eachother then no escort is under 1000 metres in length. And FightaBommaz must be about 100 metres long. My oppinon on BFG scale is this.... GW realy messed it up but on purpose ![]() You can look at it in one of two ways, either the escort models are too big, or the BattleShip / Cruiser models are too small. Either way, they are certainly not in scale with eachother. Or on the otherhand... the fluff is wrong. GW liked the idea of huge 7.5km long BattleShips so much 'and who wouldnt' that they didnt think it through properly. If fluff stated the Imperial Retribution Class Battleship BloodHawk was 1.5km long, making it the size of a StarWars StarDestroryer, then there wouldnt be an issue about the ridiculous escort size. The Imperial Retribution Class Battleship BloodHawk model is ruffly 5" long. IMO it needs to be about 25" to bring it into scale with the escorts. Either that or the escort models need to be shunk to the size of FightaBommaz, and the FightaBommaz to the size of grains of sand. That way everything would be in scale with eachother, the 7.5km length of the Imperial Retribution Class Battleship BloodHawk would be fine as it would still only make the escorts around 250 - 300 metres long. Now theres an ovious problem there... the price of a BattleShip and Cruises would run into hundreds of ![]() You'd need a football pitch to hold a game on. And the FightaBommaz would be too small to use. So wats the soloution?.... Mix the scales of couse, and thats just wat GW did. Now... wat about planets and other such large stuff. Wat scale is that? Well Ive heard that GW say 10mm in BFG represents 10,000 km. Im hoping that its ovious to all that this scale isnt carried over to the ships. If it was a Brute ram would measure some 15,000 km in length. So in conclusion... BFG is a mix of different scales. Its done this way to make the game playable and afordable, whist staying true to the 'Giant BattleShip' fluff. Well thats my thoughts on it anyway. ![]() |
