Anassiads
? ? ? ? ?The Anassiad race is native to a cluster of planets on the borders of Segmentum Obscuras, a few parsecs from the Grimore sector. ?The Anassiad society is built on a rigid caste system, divided between royal, religious, warrior, and worker castes. ?Though this system has been known to result in eventual civilian uprisings in other species, the Anassiads have maintained their civilization is this way for more than twelve millennia.
? ? ? ? ?Anassiad vessels are swift skirmishers, built for speed and striking power. ?Roughly the size of Dauntless light cruisers, Anassiad cruisers mount a quintet of deadly graviton cannons as their armament. ?These weapons fire concentrated gravity bursts that twist and wreck enemy ships quickly and efficiently.

Anassiad cruiser 140 pts
Type/Hits: Cruiser/6
Speed: 30 cm
Turns: 90
Shields: 1
Armour: 5+
Turrets: 1

Weapons
Prow Graviton Cannon(Strength 3, 30 cm, Front)
Port Graviton Cannon(Strength 1, 30 cm, Front/left)
Starboard Graviton Cannon(Strength 1, 30 cm, Front/right)

Notes
Graviton Cannon: Anassiad vessels mount powerful gravity beams as their primary weapon systems. ?When hit by these weapons, ships take tremendous damage as their hulls are contorted under the gravitic strain. ?Treat these weapons as lances, but they cause critical hits on a roll of 4+, rather than 6.

[Notes: Visually, I picture this one looking like the Pak'ma'ra ?ships from Babylon 5. ?In fact, if I can find a Call to Arms model in the right size, I'd probably use it. ?My goal here was to create a "gravity beam" weapon, and i think the lance w/ crit bonus is a good representation for it.]

Nice background and fluff (this would already be the fourth Khareshi race if yours may be included).

However the point costs for the light cruiser are to low. Compared to a Dauntless you get this:
* +5cm speed
* - 8 batteries (4 each side)
* + 2 lances (better arcs + crit hit bonus)
* + 5 pts

If some maths are done the Dauntless has 9 WB's to the front and 4 to each side.
The Anassiad has 15 WB's to the front (max) and a possibillity of 3 WB's as broadsides.

So the Anassiad loses broadside power but gains hugely in the front arc. Also the Anassiad lances are much better as the Dauntless lances.

In the end I would think only + 5 pts is not enough. That needs to be more. Another idea of making them more equal is dropping a Prow lance.

Yeah, I really was not ready to nail a points cost down yet, but you're right.  Maybe ~120 would be better.  Also remember that this loses the Dauntlesses +D6 on AAF.  Not a big loss, but something to consider.

Yes but as pointed out, it gets +5 to speed as well as the improved crit and fire arcs. The improved speed cancels out the AAF bonus. The other 2 have to be factored in. Minimum of +5 each. Why? If this thing will always fire using its front arc, and it should since it has 90 turn, it will always roll 5 dice that crits on 4+. Something to seriously consider.

What about escorts?

It's way too powerfull! It needs to loose some prow fire power or have a special rule to compensate, e.g. can't fire when on certain special orders (like for Nova cannons). Also the price should go up to something near 150pts. This thing will be devastating against anything that relies on armour! And it should be assumed that it will be facing them.

Cheers,

RayB

Points taken.  I like the stat line enough that I'm okay with upping the cost. 150 may be a little hefty though, how about 135?

135-140pts would be acceptable IMO, it is 5cm faster than a  Dauntless! And has a equivelent of +2 lances in the prow (taking the advanatge of the crits to ignore the broadside Wb's!)

Cheers,

RayB

Did you already think of escort sized vessels or are they cruiser only race? By the way you didn't adjust the point costs in the first post.

Cruiser only.  Most of my races have only one ship (like the Tau at the beginning of their space travels had only the Gal'leath).  It gives the races an extra level of flavor by showing what tactical qualities are really important to them (think about the Benkathi versus the Dakeshi).
