These are the stats I created for the forgeship I built (I'll post pics whan I can get some taken). The model is based on an Imperial cruiser hull with a Battlebarge prow, command tower, engines, batteries, and side fins. The stats are meant to reflect that it is slightly lighter than a standard battlebarge and operates primarily in deep space. ?I'm still tweaking the special rules to reflect the large number of techmarines that will no doubt be aboard, and I may add a re-roll for repairing critical hits. SPACE MARINE FORGESHIP (335 pts) TYPE/HITS SPEED TURNS SHIELDS ARMOUR TURRETS Battleship/10 20 cm 45o 3 6+ 3 ARMAMENT RANGE/SPEED FIREPOWER/STR FIRE ARC Prow Launch Bays Thunderhawks: 20 cm 3 - Prow Torpedoes Speed: 30 cm 6 Front Port Weapons Battery 60 cm 6 Left Starboard Weapons Battery 60 cm 6 Right Dorsal Bombardment Cannon 30 cm 4 Front/left/right Notes: In a campaign, a Forgeship grants two repair points to its controlling player. You did see the Forgeship by RayB in the Black Templars list? Just curious, because I never heard of such ships and now there are flying two in the sky. ![]() |

The forgeship was first listed in a TO&E from the Black Templars Index Astartes article in White Dwarf (Don't remember the #). The implication was that chapters with no homeworld would have ship based forges to service their vehicles and equipment. |

Wow. Last post here was Dec '05? Is this a dead topic? Did this ever go anywhere--I mean with any new ideas or theories, models, conversions or house rules? Should this be obvious to me?(that was rhetorical) Hmm, well for my two cents, since I'm here, a newbie and just exploring the dustier rooms of this site, I'll just say that I picked up a couple of old SpaceFleet Goliath factory ships and found rules for them in BattleFleet Gothic Magazine issue No.4. It covers some of the older models like the Thunderbolt Cruiser used as a Fast Clipper and other merchant class ships. But you probably all knew that mag and this is the reason this thread died out 3.5 yrs ago. Seems I could be a little behind due to warp storm induced time distortion so please forgive! As Rowanalpha stated, it would be conceivable for some chapters (like mine) either by loss of homeworld or lengthy crusade to find themselves in need of a mobile space forge (or two). I found these old Goliath models work just fine and fit well into my fleets mission of eternal crusade! I like the idea and would enjoy hearing about any other fleets out there with ships like these in their service! Photos would be cool too! |

Sorry guys I still live in the analog world...no digital camera. I'll try to strongarm the next tourist I see and attempt to put something together. BTW once that happens how do I upload the image here? I really am analog...seriously! (Yes, that sucking sound you hear is me). Thanks for the welcome! I'll try to be more of a prolific presence! Any of you got heavy transports or fleet support ships in your fleets? |

Would it be appropriate here to (re)post the stats from the BFG issue here for those who might'nt have a copy? What is the protocol for that? BTW the stats seem OK to me. |

I won't see harm in posting them. www.photobucket.com or www.stashbox.org are easy sites to upload pictures. |

It is simply faster for me to type them and credit the issue I referenced. So here you go! Excerpt from the article "Merchant Ships of the Imperium" Experimental Rules by Nate Montes, The Official BFG Magazine Issue No. 4, pg 12, allcredit/copyright GW reserved, no challenge to IP here, Goliath Class Forge Tender: 30 pts Type/Hits: as Cruiser/6 Speed: 15cm Turns: 45 degrees Shields: 2 Armour: 5+ Turrets: 2 Armament: Port/Starboard weapons batteries: Range/Speed 15cm, FirePwr/Strength 3, Fire Arc Left/Rt; Dorsal weapons battery, Range/Speed 15cm, FirePwr/Strength 3, Fire Arc Front/Left/Rt Notes: Goliath class ships repair 1 damage point after being in base contact with another ship for one turn (including itself) if not crippled. It has the capacity of a standard transport. It suffers -1 leadership and is restricted to +3D6cm when under All Ahead Full special orders. This ship has no planetary assault transport point value. Fluff: Goliath class forge tenders are light cruisers typically operated by the Adeptus Mechanicus and have been contracted by guilds, miltary units and planetary forces to perform maintenance repairs on remote outposts and merchant vessels throughout the Imperium for endless centuries. Despite their size they only have the capacity of a standard transport. Here is a link to an image of a painted version of the Goliath Factory ship model from the SpaceFleet range. Scroll down to the bottom of linked page. FYI, an unpainted image was referenced in the above article: http://www.solegends.com/citsfleet/imperial.htm IMHO it would be very cool to create a converted version of this ship from Imperial hulls since the model referenced above has been OOP since early 90's and is scarce! |
