Okay, at the Specialist Games forum people are generally working on the new Tau CPF fleet.
However, the question arised in wich phase is the Tau fleet? Of course there will be further improvement. But in 300 years since the ECF the Tau fleet *could* match the Imperial Navy.
After agreement with Xisor I will start a thread here on am advanced Tau fleet.

For a properly 'advanced' fleet, it's a bit underwhelming
Probably best, for such a fleet(ie not just the one ship), to go with it being a good bit more expensive too. The Protector being ~200pts, the Emissary being near 135-140pts, Custodian can be 'rejigged' a bit.
When it comes down to it, what we also have is a good opportunity of 'just' representing the models.
For the Emissary a 3*S1 Ion Cannons 1 Front, 1 each side. The Railguns could be a simply Fp2 45cm LFR thing, a S1 Launchbay and S4 Missiles(plus the obvious Grav Hooks) requiring little need for the variant. That said, it is clear that the conversion can be done, so a proper 'gunship' emissary is also feasible by the model.
That said, I still don't believe it'd be a fleet achievable in the 300 years since Damocles. Perhaps by midway of the 42nd Millenium or perhaps the turn of the Third, a properly 'upped' fleet would be very good and a unique list to look at from a 'what if' PoV, probably also a good one for getting in through Warp Rift.

Ah, thanks on those Xisor, tomorrow I'll update some stats. Indeed Warp Rift is the aim for the list.
I guess the Castellan is advanced....

The changes I did are in blue.
At the moment I'm certainly not looking at points. First aim is to give cool stats to the ships without overpowering what the vessel could have. Maybe it turns out to strong and the fleet must be toned down at the end.
For the Emissary I really would like to have two distinct variants.

Xisor made some fluff over at the SG board and now I picked something up from it to use on the 'advanced' Tau CPF.
Comments & help welcome (and help on Tau-ish names !)
'After Xis'or's team made the new Kor'o'vesh possible, Commander Distant Darkness and Shas'o Sir'oth went further on the designs being still no satisfied with the fleet performaces.
Despite high costst they put together a small fleet, representing every available vessel they had. Soon they moved out the Horizon enclaves. A somewhat distant Tau colony at the opposite side of the borders with the Imperium. There they reworked the vessels to be more deadly and even more important faster and more manoeuvrable. At high cost they succeeded in upgrading a few vessels, most notewhorthy was their succes on the Protector class cruiser. It got a higher speed and a higher turn rate, the costs where immense.
The upgraded vessels are being kept relative secret to the outworld. They can't afford to see them being destroyed and therefor are only used on small raids and shipping routes within the Empire.
Untill the Tau empire can overcome the high costs there will be no more upgardes much to the annoyance of Commander Distant Darkness & Shas'o Sir'oth. Both wanting to improve the whole Tau fleet to be better prepared against another Imperial Crusade.
Lately Commander Distant Darkness has become under the very watchfull eye of Tau High Command. This because there are reports of the Commander having a personal vessel. This based on the Emissary diplomacy version but much faster and other mysterious options. However this is not yet confirmed and Commander Distant Darkness has always been very loyal to the Tau Empire. But Tau Command doesn't want another Farsight, thus they are watching Commander Distant Darkness very close.
...end...
Commander Distant Darkness personal Emissary:
Emissary - light cruiser - diplomacy variant
hits - 4 speed - 30cm turns - 90* shields - 1 Armour - 5+ Turrets - 1
Railgun battery - 3 - 45cm - LFR - Dorsal Gravitic launcher - 4 - F - Prow Launch Bay - 1 - NA - Dorsal
Notes: * The vessel is equipped with a prow deflector * AAF on 10cm + 4D6 * Launch bay only launches Barracuda fighters * Stealth: vessel may only be shot at within 30cm.

Are those the rules from the Taros campaign book IA3?
Personally I like the idea that the tau have a hard time building alot of lances (ion cannons) as seen in the orignial fleet- just because they are an 'advanced' race doesn't mean that every technoloigcal construction they build is superior.
I actually like the idea that tau ships are 'inferior' to imperial ones- it shows that although the tau possess advanced technology they are still novices in the field of space travel- seeing as how humanity has been doing it for nigh on 38,000 years......
You have to be careful not to make their ships too good- I would say that multiple ion cannon would only be mountable on battleships due to the energy expenditure.
I do agree though that their ship hit values should not be quite as good as imperial or ork varieties- again they have spent less time making ships then they have making guns.

I wish I had the IA3 rules !
No, these rules where spawned from the SG-forum rules once the question raised if the Protector should have 90* turns or not and a speed issue on the Emissary.
That's why I mentioned at the SG forum that list had to go with 45* and I would start a list here on the 'advanced'-90* list.
The cost of the vessels in this list ofcourse has to be higher.

Rejiggled some weaponry.
Most notably the Castellan, drop 1 Ion Cannon for another Railgun Battery, that way the firepower is just a little lower as an Eldar Hellebore Frigate.
Also upped the speed from the escorts to 30cm. Zippy Zippy Zippy.
The word file isn't updated.

Okay,
over at the SG board their is a real struggle on some ships. Mainly because on the subject of speed and turn rates.
Now we may beat eachother to wack on the subject, I decided to change the attempt here, creating a very advanced list into creating the normal Tau CPF list using a fleet with 90* turns.
I added a Word file to download, but for convenience I post the stats here:
Custodian GC 320 points Hits - 10 Speed - 20cm Turns - 45* Shields - 3 Armour - 5+ Turrets - 3
Railgun battery - 3 - 45cm - FL - Port Railgun battery - 3 - 45cm - FR - Starboard Ion Cannon - 1 - F - 30cm - Port Ion Cannon - 1 - F - 30cm - Starboard Launch bay - 2 - NA - Port Launch bay - 2 - NA - Starboard Gravitic launcher - 6 - F - Prow Grav hooks - 3 - NA
Notes: * 20cm ITS * Prow deflector
Protector cruiser 190 points Hits - 6 Speed - 20cm Turns - 90* Shields - 2 Armour - 5+ Turrets - 3
Ion Cannon - 2 - 30cm - F - Prow Railgun battery - 4 - 45cm - LF - Port Railgun battery - 4 - 45cm - RF - Starboard Gravitic launcher - 4 - F - Prow Launch Bay - 2 - NA - Dorsal
Note: * Prow deflector * ITS
Emissary light cruiser 120 points hits - 4 speed - 25cm turns - 90* shields - 2 Armour - 5+ Turrets - 2
Ion Cannon - 1 - 30cm - F - Port Ion Cannon - 1 - 30cm - F - Starboard Railgun battery - 3 - 30cm - LFR - Dorsal Gravitic launcher - 3 - F - Prow
Notes: * Prow deflector at +15 points * Ion Cannons can be replaced with 2 Grav Hooks
Warden Hunship 35 points Hits - 1 Speed - 25cm Turns - 90* Shields - 1 Armour - 5+ Turrets - 1
Ion Cannon - 2 - 30cm - F - Prow
Notes: Willing to change 1 Ion Cannon to batteries if fleet tends to be Ion Cannon heavy.
Castellan escort 60 points Hits - 1 Speed - 20cm Turns - 90* Shields - 1 Armour - 5+ Turrets - 2
Railgun battery - 2 - 30cm - LFR - Dorsal Ion cannon - 1 - 30cm - F - Prow Gravitic launcher - 2 - Prow
Notes: Most difficult model to make stats on....
