Hi!

As I posted in the GothiComms thread, I had thought of the following to rep missile ships in the Lithesh War without recourse to back-dating the Emissary...

IL?FANNOR (MERCHANT) CLASS STARSHIP, D'YANOI CONFIGURATION - 105 points (+15 for extra 2 HP)

Before the development of the Gal'leath Mark XXIV, before the advent of the Kir'qath and Lar'shi class of starships, the Kor'vattra relied on the venerable Il'fannor hull as a launch platform for its missile ordnance. The D'yanoi configuration converted the space taken up on other configurations by grav hooks or ion cannon to store ammunition for its Gravitic Launcher. While the class proved mostly adequate against the Orks, it soon proved to be found wanting when faced with the Imperial Navy's ships of the line. With the development of the Lar'shi and Kir'qath, it was deemed that the Il'fannor could better serve the Kor'Vattra in either its original or it's Dal'yth configuration, and the D'yanoi configuration vessels were eventually phased out of active service, almost all converted to another combat type. Notably, however, the type saw considerable service as part of D'yanoi's hard-pressed space assets during its long isolation from the tau'va, and the type is fondly remembered by the people of that Sept.

TYPE/HITS SPEED TURNS SHIELDS ARMOUR TURRETS
Cruiser/4 15cm 45? 1 5+ 2
ARMAMENT RANGE/SPEED FIREPOWER/STR FIRE ARC
Prow Gravitic Launcher Speed: 20-40cm 4 Front
Prow Railgun Battery 45cm 2 Front/left/right
Port Railgun Battery 45cm 2 Front/left
Starboard Railgun Battery 45cm 2 Front/right

As you can see, it's really only designed for historical battles set either in the DGC, the old Ork wars or possibly as part of D'yanoi's fleet during its isolation from the Empire.

Thoughts?

Gary

This is great! It's a little cheap compared to the lance version though. Up-it by 5 or 10 pts (That's only because of the cost of the original, without that its worth about 105).

As a side note, the launchbay variant was fairly good (check out the Tau'n fleet list in WR), but like so many other cool things like the 2 lance orca, Kroot attack/battlespheres and nicassar Battleships (basically 5Wb escorts with 2 shields) that were in the 'sketches' of the fleet, it didn't make it!

Oh, and don't forget the Manta being a Str3 torp bomber (range 20cm) (along with tigersharks as normal bombers that were hit by turrets on a 5+ because of drone defences).

Ah well!

Cheers,

RayB

Where are the Capital Ship Launched Escorts? :p

A nice ship I must admit, but I really do feel that strongarming the Emissary backwards into the history will make the whole thing alot more credible, without needing to recourse and point people to unnoffical ships. I don't see why folks don't like it, it makes good sense!

1- Missiles
2- Rubbish direct fire broadsides
3- Capital Ship launched escorts
4- It's a different hull design from either the rest of the CPF or the ECF itself.

It can be done in detail with a nice illustrious history, being thje precursor to dedicated CPF 'warships' but still from a time before the Tau realised just how undergunned they actually are!

Even at that, the version you give 'is' a decent ship, it's far less of a liability in the fleet when it can fight at range with missiles rather than be force to close to use RGs or ICs where the enemy can actually return fire at it(and with 1 shield and 4 hits....:(8: ) Seems to me that it'd make a good addition to the 3PE rather than the Lithesh war, particularly because it's a more useful ship. In fact it could be noted that the Emissary was based off of this idealogy...

@Ray: Is there any sign at all of SG doing that bloody booster pack we were promised for the Tau? Seems like it'd be a half decent investment IMO...

Xisor,
2-3 months ago the booster pack was talked about in the Yahoo list. It does already exist. You should try the US online store, I taught they had it.

Nerroth,
nice configuration, good supporting fluff as well.

Raysokuk,
hmm, I think I'm gonna read that WR issue again. You really taught about Nicassar Battleships and all these things? Good.
What's next after ECF CPF?

I checked the online store, they don't!

Glad you like the ship though.

Following was posted at the Yahoo group in august:

Hi Everyone,

I've been checking out the list every so often for a while and
haven't noticed anyone mention the Tau Expansion/Booster Pack, if they have I apologise.
I have had said Booster pack for a few months but have noticed it is not on the list of the store site, I found it by doing a search
with 'Booster'. The pack costs ?10 pounds and comes with two grav hooks, two ion cannon sets, two railgun battery sets (so you can do the Merchant and Hero conversions with the one pack) and what is really sweet is two new parts which I take to be the drone storage areas on the converted Explorer 'Bor'kan' class. Each part is a direct replacement on the 'station' of the ship and looks like twin boxes with a gap between.

Hope this helps someone, thanks for listening

Indigodave

I tried the search today and indeed there is a booster pack to order, only no picture of it. Oh yeah, its the UK store.

I see it, I'll finally be able to do that Lar'shi Battlecruiser conversion I had cooked up back in the day...

The drone storage boxes would be ideal for the D-yanoi config too... wonder if a gravitic launcher is included, or do I have to chop up a 40k rail rifle to do the trick!

I got the Tau Booster pack, I'd recommend to anyone interested in this conversion to use the drone storage modules in the Booster pack in place of the grav hooks, and order a Pathfinder rail rifle and use it for the D'yanpoi config's gravitic launcher.
