The Ironclad battleship hails hack to a time before the Imperium and these ships are millennia old. They were built when mankind's shield technology was too primitive for the defence of spaceships. Instead their hulls are massively armoured, covered with layer upon layer of thick plates arranged to deflect and minimise the impact of torpedoes and laser fire. Over the many centuries of its service, every Ironclad has fought in countless space battles, and each ship's surface is pitted and rutted with the sears of combat, a glorious history of its long defence of the Imperium." From WD139

Okay so my first BFG ship, cheesy, overpowered and too cheap? Two versions as I wasnt sure about the 6 armour all around.

I would say that both of these versions are actually over-priced. Have a look at the Avenger class grand cruiser in Armada. It has 30cm 16wb either side and only costs 220pts - and that's with 20cm movement and 3 shields & turrets.

Also, the 6+ all-round armour is one of the things that makes this ship distinct from others, so I wouldn't go dropping it.

Most importantly, where's the model? Without a model to go with it, this will just be added to the pile of ship stats that other people have done. It doesn't take much effort to create a set of stats for a ship. It takes a lot more effort to go about building and converting the model for a new ship.

Still, at least you didn't just plunge straight in to making an uber ship like so many others do ( wow! look at the stats I made for this new Dreadnought! 800pts! 6 shields! etc etc ??? ).

Is this perchance based on the old Ironclad model from Spacefleet game- the precursor to BFG?

If so then I would definitely make it a Grand Cruiser- the old Ironclad model is just not big enough to be a battleship.

Heh heh, I actually thought the same thing after I posted that. It would certainly make building the model easier :;): . Anyone know of any sites that have pictures of the Spacefleet ships? Would be good to reminisce about those old models  .

Link to old Spacefleet models:

I have picked up some old Emperor/Dominator/Tyrant models. I plan on using the old Emperor as a variant Overlord/Tyrant (the old model is too small to be a Battleship) and the old Dominator/Tyrant models as light cruisers, possibly as Endeavour class or variant.

I have also picked up a old Castellan, a Galaxy and a Goliath to use as various civilian ships/troop transports.

Cheers

Ah cool, now I know that the two ships I had back in the day were the Ironclad and the Tyrant.

How big is the Dominator? Would make a great Nova Cannon armed light cruiser if of the right size.
