Hello! I am new to BFG and I would like to build fleet for my own made SM Chapter Black Lions (Dark Angels successors). Firstly, I am building fleet just for fun although there is small possibility that i will play BFG in future. I have already ordered following: 2x Battle Barge 8x Hunter Class Destroyer 4x Gladius Class Frigate 3x Nova Class Frigate 17 models ----------------------------------------- I want to build complete fleet according to my chapter fluff. I dont know how big is common SM Fleet or of what is consists of. I created this roster: 2x Battle Barge 8x Strike Cruiser 12x Hunter Class Destroyer 8x Gladius Class Frigate 6x Nova Class Frigate 6x Cobra Class Destroyer 6x Firestorm Frigate 64 models at all Bonus 50-60 Imperial Thundehawk Gunships from Forgeworld ![]() My Chapter operate in sector which consists of hundreds of planets and most of them are very important for Imperium and enemy knows about it so there is lot of fighting involved. I know the role of the Space Marines and their fleets..so i want to have it fluffy. So any suggestions to my roster structure?? PS: Is it worth to buy BFG Rulebbok or is there everything on GW site?? BFG Armada has some new ships included. Is there posibility to find somewhere thos ships? I want to convert my fleet so as my W40k models so they will look unique according to my chapter fluff;) PS2: Could tell me which models are plastic and which are metallic? Thank you |

Hi, large task ahead for you. ![]() So, you know the role: * Planetary Assault * Some border patrolling The rulebooks & armada can be downloaded from GW website. Bunch of seperate pdf's under resources. Almost all ships from both these books can be bought at GW. FW sells some ships as well (including resin strike cruiser, marine escorts (gladius, hunter, nova). A new FAQ2010 is being made (check forum at www.sg.tacticalwargames.net) A Strike Cruiser can carry 1 full company. A Barge 3 full companies of Marines. Including vehicles and such. The Imperial Navy & Chaos cruisers are plastic. Rest at GW is metal. ForgeWorld is resin ofcourse. |

Thank you for fast response ![]() That first 17 models which are ordered are models which are really want and it should be proper for 1000pts game i will order 2-3 Strike Cruisers and that all. I think with so many models i will have fun for long time so there is no rush for completing fleet. Can you suggest total number of the common SM fleet or does it depends on demans of the each chapter?? Or just make compare with numbers of Imperial Fleets cause they have much more numbers than SM. So all i need to play and all informations about units, fluff and so on are on GW. So there no need to buy paper rules (i have already yprinted some PDFs) I definitely want to convert at least both Battle Barges and Strike Cruisers. Are there any restrictions if i will make longer/wider ship ?? Can i change quipment?? Are there some rules for that? Something about models: they are cut to pieces? I mean metalic models or its one piece? Thank you for you answers! |

Hi, Indeed, 1500 is a real allround value. Giving enough options to vary in 1000pts games for example. There are some Ultramarine pdf's which detail there fleet. What you posted is somewhat smaller iirc so entirely convincing. IN fleet is indeed bigger . In the Armageddon List both Marines/Navy are available as a mixed force. Yep, no need to buy, all for download available. Check out the GothiComp galleries for conversion ideas and such. Changing sizes of ships is not a problem for playability, it is the stem and base that count. Changing equipment: Marines got a rather strict set regarding weaponry. Models are not entirely one-piece. cheers, |

You mean that i can make ship 2x bigger than battle barge? (extreme example). What does it mean if stem is higher or lower?? and base i will use original bases. Is it in the rules??? |

You could make them bigger yes. Higher/Lower stems doesn't matter. Battleships go on large bases. Cruisers and escorts on small bases. Yep, is in the rules that stem is centerpoint, the actual ship. The model is eye candy. |

Last question: All that counters needed for play, is it included with rulebook?? What was the last model update which GW did for BFG? Is there any near future possibillity, that next year they realease new models and rules?? Or ever? |

Counters: can be downloaded at GW website. Alternative counters come with Warp Rift fanzine for example. Special Order dice: can be done with tokens alternatively, but these are available in the Epic:Armageddon section of the GW website. New models.... never? Latest are the Adeptus Mechanicus cruisers. FAQ2010 is in the works (as said above). Draft rules for Rogue Traders, Tau CPF and some Eldar bits are in progress (sg forum). |

I read that BFG models are out of scale. Is there any official/fun guide about the proper size? I would like to convert my ships so they will look properly. I mean if for example Nova Class Frigate is 5x shorter than Battle Barge, then i will make my best to get smaller/bigger battle barge to look apropriate. |

If you go by old established values: Imperial Navy: Battleships ~5000metres length Cruisers ~2500-3000 metres length Escorts ~ 800-1200metres length New values (Rogue Trader RPG) make them bigger: cruisers : ~5000 metres sword: ~1700 metres or so Good luck with scaling. |

Aghh! I read artificle, which says that tehre is no official information of scale and actual scale is just many-years disccussion of players. So i decided that i will not scale them according to any guide. Ill maybe come up with my own scale or just wont care about such things. Truth is that i want make my Battle Barges slightly biger from 2-4cm extend lenght and so cruisers. I am trying to find some new homemade ships classes which could be used by SM just for inspiration for my own. For my chapter is planetary assault most important thing so i want do some transport ships with scale something between Frigates and Cruisers. Are there any rules how i can create my own ship or i just can make uber-total-destroyer?:D For example like in W40k Apocalypse where you can make any unit and you just look into armoury how many points will look its equipment. Is there some pdf how much each torpedoes, batteries and so on cost points? |

No official point-cost guide. Closest thing is the Smotherman Formula (google, port maw where it is hosted is down). |

Additional questions: what is the size of squadron. I mean Battle Barge have 3 squadrons of Thunderhawks. And question related to 1st one. If i build bigger Battle Barge and want to extend size of thuderhawk squadrons how should i approach?? I mean make battle barge more expensive or limit its firepower to play it properly?? |
