After a conversation on another website, I was wondering if anyone had any hard facts as to how big the ships are in BFG?
We have surmised on a length of around 3-4km long for Imperial cruisers. I dont think we had any hard facts, however.

Ahhh, this old thread. This comes up occassionally, mostly with regards to a typo in a book stating that the vessels were 30Km long. Around 3Km is the generally agreed length.
(There are OTHER forums out there? )

I don't think there are any agreed upon ship lengths for BFG.
Even the fluff is a little misleading...
Most people agree that about 3km is average with some ships being larger and others smaller.
I've never really thought about the question except for the idea of what a ship hulk would look like if it crash landed on the surface of a planet and my Epic forces fought over it.

The assumptions came up with torpedoes being around 30M, normal cruisers around 3-4Km, Battleships around 5-7Km, and Escorts around 1 Km.
They used Star Wars and Star Trek to base the assumptions on (the Enterprise being about 750M long, and Star Destroyers being around 1Km)

Yep, ShadowHunter speaks truth here.. the book 'Execution Hour' gives us some lengths, including the recognized 3km = Cruiser, and presumably so does the sequel, 'Shadow Point', which I have yet to read...

Doesn't Execution Hour use a bigger figure for torpedoes at some point? I think it was 100m, but I'm not too sure on that point. If I'm remebering correctly, it does beg the question how they are all stored on a relatively small ship like a Cobra.

I'm reading Execution Hour again (what a book!) and Rennie describes the torpedoes as "thirty-metre-long plasma torpedos (pg.19)."
The Dictator Class Cruiser Lord Solar Macharius, to its "aft lay the engine section, comprising fully one third ? ?of the ship's three kilometre length (pg.19)." It is absolutely mind-boggling to fathom such a ship...
If you were in a car travelling at 100km/hr (62mph), you would go from one end to the other end of a Dicatator class ship in......... 1 minute 48 seconds!!!

I just found my 100m reference as well, so he actually uses two different lengths
See page 96,
"firing the hundred metre long missiles out of their silo tubes"

*looks up page 96*
huh... I'll be damned... Could it be that Rennie confused the English to Metric conversion? If true...
*shakes fist at the English system*

I think there might be a bit of confusion over ship lengths in general and torpedoes in particular. I think I remember (and I'm more vague on this point) seeing a quote saying torpedoes were skyscaper size somewhere (main rulebook??) as well. If true, that's a lot more than 30m or even 100m.

Its not surprising us guys are so confused over lengths when they are given two different stats in the same book.
I cant remember what it says in the rule book about lengths, but I do remember that drawing of loads of slaves trying to load a massive torpedoe. It looked more than 30M.

Easily 100+ meters.

The latest Fire Warrior interview gives the length of an Imperial battleship as 10 miles (16km). Not a GW source, but they must have been supplied with all the neccessary background material for the game.

BTW looks like the game might make it onto my Christmas list

Hi!
I wonder why there is such a tendency for sci-fi backgrounds to make ships so huge?
Is it even logical from a space dynamics point of view to make them like this?
Imagine the inertia of a kilometer and a half ship!
