So I was bored one day looking through my BFG files and came across using chaos ships in imperial fleets. This is not novel to me as I use a Grand Repulsive. However looking through Abaddon's List, I came across something interesting. It states that if I want to use a Chaos ship in my fleet I cannot take any of the ship variants, however the upgrade that turns a Chaos ship into a Daemon ship does not fall into that category, "The basic profile of a ship, which is upgraded to a Daemon ship remains unchanged" So I was considering uping my Grand Repulsive to a Daemon Ship, or getting another daemon ship, either way. To me its sounds fine, although quite sneaky. But I thought I would run it past a few others first. |

^Daft replies like that make no sense at all. Well, sneakily. But a daemonship in an Imperial Navy fleet: Meh. Rule lawyering to the max, outside background. I wouldn't allow it. Or at least beat you so badly you'd never take a daemonship again. Why? Because daeomoships are poor!~ ![]() |

Well Its just because I try to run an inquisitorial-esque fleet. Since my 40k army is a radical army and I use daemonhosts, I thought it would be cunning of me to use a daemonhost-daemon ship. By the sounds of things I was right that it is techincally legal. ![]() I was thinking of a Hades with chains and Iquisitorial "I"s slapped on it, holding the daemon inside the ship. i.e. a VERY LARGE daemonhost. Cheers. |

The Daemon ship is a upgrade just like a variant or Chaos Space marines or Chaos Lord. They are options that can be taken if using the Chaos fleet lists. When using reserves you are allowed to take that said ship not that ship's entry from a chaos army list/upgrades. BTW TRC BFG is  ![]() |

It's also more a case of prove that the Reserve Fleet can get daemonships because it explicitly says so rather than assuming it's available because it isn't explicitly stated. |

this is the rule: "but you cannot pick any of the ship class variants described since these are described for vessels who have already turned traitor and hence obviously no longer in Imperial service." Now a daemon ship is not a "class variant" it is an upgrade, different, considering that the profile doesn't change as well. However as brought up, using a daemonship in imperial navy isn't very usual, and in the rule it states "these are described for vessels who have already turned traitor and hence obviously no longer in Imperial service." And a Daemonship has obviously gone traitor. HOWEVER, this statement is refering to the "Class Variants" not anything else, so worming your way through and around this rule, I think that because it explicitly states "Class Variant" not "Any upgrade" that one could get away with using a daemonship in IN. Well legally get away, whether or not your opponent would that a different story. But if there is anything else that needs to be brought up please do... |

A Daemonship is a option list in the Chaos list. You cannot use that when running it under the Imperial flag. It would be like, If you wanted to run a Chaos Lord or CSM on the vessel. Daemonships are not part of the Imperial fleet list! |
