Well, as I'm finally coming to the end of building the first ship in the fleet (The Bride of the Emperor), I've re-started thinking about the whole fleet. I've dropped a dauntless cruiser, and a dominator, and added a black ship and a sword class frigate. So, what are your thoughts on this?

Bride of the emperor: Dictator cruiser...220
Admiral...100
Arm of Thorian: Black ship...270
Terminatrix: Dominator cruiser, Hammer of justice fitting...185
St Myra & St celestine: 2 dauntless cruisers...220
St Kathryn & St Sarine: 2 dauntless cruisers...220
Holy fireblade: 3 Firestorm class frigates, sword class frigate...155
Saintly fury: 3 Firestorm class frigates...120
Total: 1500
3 cruisers, 4 light cruisers, 7 escorts

For my taste, it does not have enough Cruisers. YOu will find that a core Cruisers add a definate survivability to the force. I know that you wanted to go 'Dauntless heavy', but with only three vessels larger than a light cruiser I do think that you will find it difficult to rely on your forces achieving what they set out to do.

That being said, I would be interested to see how this forces plays. I also notice that you have no Swords or Cobras. Personally, I find the Firestorms the least useful of the Escorts and they are usually the ones that I drop first.

The reason I took all those firestorms and dauntless is because I have a certain dislike for ordnance (escpecially torpedoes), because they need extra models to be built, which can subsequently break, get lost or other nasties. Also, I dislike the way you need to constantly check the gunnery table, so I try to keep that at a minimum too.

Also, I want to avoid too much big ships, as i'm scratchbuilding this, and most cruisers aren't that easy to scratchbuild IMO. Weapons batteries aren't that bad, but launch bays are terrible!

[Edit:] I decided on something as a guideline for my battles (if I ever get to actually using this fleet). I'd send the dauntlesses partly shielded by the escorts straight down my opponent's army, first firing lances, and then switching to broadside batteries. The cruisers would mainly be support. The nova cannon fires on far targets, that pose a long ranged threat. The black ship & dictator fire ordnance in support of the dauntlesses, and to disrupt the enemy advance. If the enemy gets too close, I turn my ships and they'll eat broadside!
Good?
