I need some back-ground info and hoping I can get some fast answers without having to plough through the source material I do have or search through the internet for it. 1) What is the command structure on a Space Marine Battle Barge? Similiar to that of an Imperial Fleet? 2) Who would authorise the building of a new Battleship? Which organisation or commander etc? 3) What sorta ship would be used to transport materials to a Space Dock for construction of a new ship. I'm pretty sure I'll have more questions, but just to keep it simple. Thanks |

Hi Lextar, here are my (biased) replies: 1 - It SHOULD be the senior Techmarine 2 - For an SM chapter, the Master of the Forge 3 - cargoes for the equipment; bulk transporters or cargo barges for the structural material; dedicated transporters for the engine parts and other large bits; tugs for helping around; very large tugs for towing asteroids to processing plants, or alternatively, vast self-propelled mining plants. |

According to Armada the Tech Marines only oversee the Engines and run the technical stuff such as controlling the Servitor crew. The actual command is under a senior Marine officer. Probably never below the rank of captain. Other than that I think Vanvlak is pretty much spot on. For Space Dock vessels also I imagine tugs which are basically big engines attatched to half fabricated component. This should be much easier for transporting large compomnents than stowing them away inside an actual transport. Cheers! ![]() |

Hmmmph - Techmarines should still get overall command - at least in my chapters. And you're right about the tugs, WMN, big, powerful engines stuck to whatever needs moving. |

Okay, one other question while I remember... who orders a new Space Dock to be built? |

The ruling Planetry Overlord? Chief Magos of the Mechanicus? Grand Admiral of the Imperial Navy? I would say any one of these could, it all depends on what the purpose of the dock is, civilian, military, etc. |

Definitely him. So there. Oh, and did I mention I'm biased? |

I would guess that the senior Marine Commander would take charge, with the TechMarines dealing with the local running of the systems, unless the Marine Commander is planet-side in battle, in which case there should be an NCO on board. |

I haven't read any BFG novels, so most likely get things wrong as I write the background stuff. So if I get it wrong, please tell me. Don't have e-mail so I rely on this forum. fluff in italics. http://www.lexcore.co.uk/Epic4/Special03.htm |

The SM admiral equivalent is the "Master of the Fleet". Rank similar to that of a company captain. It would be this dude the one directing a fleet. I suppose you are refering to that in your fist question. Health and sixes, Xavi |
