'Morning all, I'm brand new to the forums and also to Battlefleet Gothic. ?I'm highly interested in the game, having been turned off to 40k since v.3, and have spent the last few weeks toying with my friends' fleets to try before I buy, so to speak. With some testing, I found out that my playing style is an up-front, direct assault relying on row upon row of weapons batteries and lances. ?I'm not one for lightning maneuvers and slashing attacks (Eldar) and have been described as "Nelsonian" in that I prefer to fight with my ships layed yardarm to yardarm (or the space equivalent thereof). ?Also, I tend to use escorts in the form of the old cavalry: ?hunting weakened ships and, more importantly, denying territory to the enemy. It is because of this style that I have settled upon the Imperial navy. ?I'd like to base my first fleet around cruisers because I feel that a battleship can always be added later (read: ?when I get richer). ?To my great luck, I landed 8 unassembled Imperial cruisers off of eBay for $30.00. ?So, I'd just like to submit this fleet for criticism from more experienced players and get your feedback on it. 1 Admiral (leadership 8, two total rerolls) 1 Exorcist class grand cruiser (Halberd of the Emperor) 1 Lunar class cruiser (Inexorable) 1 Lunar class cruiser (Marquis de Morangias) 1 Tyrant class cruiser (Unyielding - upgraded range) 1 Gothic class cruiser (Procurator Quintus) 1 Dominator class cruiser (St. Flavius) 3 Sword class escorts (Stryker squadron) 4 Firestorm class escorts (Stiletto squadron) That totals 1495 points. ?I was considering a Vengeance class grand cruiser for a flagship, which would come to exactly 1500 points. ?That would eliminate all attack craft capability from the fleet, though. Thank you very much in advance. James |

Hello and welcome to the game ![]() Not much to say. You have a good fleet there. Only comments would be for you to squadron the 2 lunars, and make the gotrhic and dominator act as a team (even if NOT squadroned). Thuis gives you 2 pairs of ships with a combo of 12 weapon batteries (WB) and 4 lances. It is a fair team. The exorcist is a good ship for the cost, making for a good carrier. Its range makes it a good ship to work in coordination with the Tyrant and have a high resistance and a good aircraft capability. Youa are low on aircraft (spacecraft, actually ![]() Appart from that I think you are doing good so far and it is time for playtest now. IMPORTANT: just in case you don't like a particular ship in the end, you might want to use blue tac to stick the weapon batteries and lances to your ships. That means that later you can change the configuration to test an other combination if you find this particular one does not suit you. Regards, Xavi |

Xavi, Very good points, thank you very much. ?I was planning on forming a squad with the Lunars, but forgot to post that. ?I am very low on spacecraft, though that's by design. ?I'm with you in that I don't really like the Dictator class and don't think the Mars class support vessel will fare well with my kind of knife-fighting. ?The Exorcist would definitely be launching Combat Space Patrols for the battle line. A few people I have talked to have pointed out the fact that I'm apparently "low" on escorts. ?I'm not quite sure how to recieve this, since I envision a mutually-supporting battle line as opposed to swift running fights. ?However, I've created a second fleet just so I could get all of your feedback on it. ?So, there are got options A (above) and B (below): Admiral (Leadership 9, 2 total rerolls) Jovian class battlecruiser Lunar class cruiser Lunar class cruiser Dictator class cruiser (or a Tyrant with upgraded range, though that would entitile a reduction in weapons batteries and the elimination of all nova cannon) Gothic class cruiser 4 Cobra class destroyers 3 Sword class frigates 4 Firestorm class frigates Unfortunately, the ships in the above fleet haven't been christened yet ? ![]() Thanks again, James |

iirc, its just an Imperial battlecruiser with all launch bays on each side... think its L3 sqdrns/R3 sqdrns ...could be 8 altogether tho... ![]() |

It is a home made imperial BC. A pure carrier, with 3 launch bays per side and 2 dorsal lances at 60 cm. Prow sensors for a +1 leadership, IIRC. It is completely unofficial and will NEVER be accepted by the High Almiralty (explicitly stated, since it breaks the distinction of chaos being better at AC than imps) but it has proven popular and a lot of people has built one. Actually it is on my list of "to do" things ![]() Regards, Xavi |

Hmmm, the ArmyBuilder file I am using states that the Jovian originated in BFG #1. That's unfortunate if it is unofficial. Anyway, I was leaning towards fleet A. Thank you very much for pointing that out. Any other thoughts on fleet A? Cheers! James |
