Hello to you all,
I'm building and experimenting with my new imperial fleet and of course questions arise. (this being the second ) This one is plain simple, are nova cannon woth it? You lose your torpedoes and pay extra. Are they effective (enough) and what rules are official at the moment? The old ones ore the new "scatter"version in annual 2002?
thanks in advance!

For the rules, the official rules are the old ones, with the guess range. However, this is mostly because there has not been a rules update for a while (Armada, the latest suppliment, was new vessels and fleets only). It is almost certain that with the next update, the scatter rules will be official (which I am very pleased about).
Nova Cannons can be very useful as they havea huge range and the capability to take out an enemy cruiser with only two shots. However, once the enemy gets close then you will be wishing for those torpedoes.
I am afraid that the answer to both of your questions is something along the lines of 'a few are fine, go for balance'. Gothic, more than most games, rewards a flexible battle line and tactical ability.
I would take a couple of Nova Cannons, but no more than three in an Imperial Fleet of around 2000 points.
I hope that this helps.
