Ok. I'm helping some friends build some BFG fleets and need your advice.  They're playing Imperial and Chaos but here's what they're looking at.

Imperial list A.
-Emperor Battleship with assault boats
-Overlord Battlecruiser
-2x Lunar Cruisers
-Dictator Cruiser
-2x squads of 4x Swords
-Fleet Admiral (the LD8 one)

Imperial list B.
-Apocalypse Battleship
-2x Dictator Cruisers
-2x Tyrant Cruisers (With upgraded batteries)
-2x squads of 3x Swords
-Fleet Admiral (the LD8 one)

Chaos list A.
-Despoiler Battleship with Warmaster
-Acheron Heavy Cruiser
-2x Murder Cruisers
-Devastation Cruiser
-2x squads of 3x Infidels
-1x squad of 3x Iconoclasts

Chaos list B.
-Desolator Battleship with Warmaster
-2x Devastation Cruisers
-2x Carnage Cruisers
-Slaughter Cruiser
-2x Squads of 3x Infidels

Imperial player:
Derek is leaning towards list b because he likes the Apocalypse model and drooling over the Str6 Lances.  He felt there might be a problem with eldar so he took the two tyrants with upgraded batteries and swords.  List a looks more rounded, but he sure loves that Apocalypse.

Chaos player:
John is also leaning towards list b, mainly because it's a more hit and run style fleet.  He likes the 25cm speed on the desolator and the 30cm +5d6 on the slaughter which would attack with the Infidels.

Other fleets in the area are not too overly heavy on attackcraft, most are around 8 for 1500, with the marine being the heaviest with 11 (Battlebarge and 4 strike cruisers).  So they shouldn't be too hard pressed in the ordnance area.

Which lists do you like and if possible can you suggest a better list with the Apocalypse in it?  Thanks!

With list B I'd maybe go for a Victory BB instead of the Apocalypse- I use an Apocalypse, but they can be difficult to use, and the Victory may seem easier with it's longer ranged lance batteries; and you still get to use the same excellent model.
I would also consider changing a Dictator for a Lunar; I'm not so keen on attack craft as many players, but if he'd rather not, the the fleet list looks fine... I like to have a real eclectic mixture of all the types of cruisers in my fleet, but that's really personal preference...  :;):

Good luck anyway, and I'm sure some of the other guys will have lots more to contribute...

For the Imperials, I would probably go with list b, although the two lists are actually fairly similar in function - but I am not a big fan of the Lunar.

For the Chaos player, I would probably go with fleet a, it just looks more of a solid fleet to me. I would certainly think twice about taking a single, unsupported Slaughter cruiser.

But, none of the fleets look particularly flawed, so any of them would give a good game.

If you do take fleet list A might i recommend replacing the Overload with a Armageddon<---(I think the spellings wrong)

That is of course if your mate has no problem with using ships from the Armageddon fleetlist

squadron the arma. with the lunars and you get some seroiusly strong firepower with a strength 18 batteries to each side and 8 lances to a side along with 24 hitpoints between.

Not bad i think :D

Anyway it up to you i would recommend fleet A
I don't see the problem with Apoclyse i think it's a ace ship a unstoppable line breaker just ram it in between their ranks and i think they'll come of just slightly worse :p
