The Hades is the best Heavy Cruiser imo- the Styx is a little overpriced for what you get... Normal cruisers.. well, the Slaughter is very powerful battery-wise and is very fast indeed for a cruiser, but I quite like the Carnage for longer range engagements, and a couple of Murders also do pretty well against most things. Devestations are good too, as the firepower they can throw out compliments their attack craft nicely, teamed with a Murder they can take down an enemy cruiser pretty easily... With your six, I would make: 1 Hades 2 Murders 1 Carnage 1 Devestation 1 Slaughter Hope that helped... ![]() |

Plus Chaos don't have "Light Cruisers" so to speak. They are an Imperial invention, much never than any of the Chaos designs, so the lightest Chaos cruiser that you will find is a standard cruiser. Cheers Chris |

Yes, the Chaos fleet does not have Light Cruisers as they are used mostly for the Imperium and patrol missions, and are not suited for the Chaos assaults. (However, Imperials 'dont have' Heavy Cruisers to compensate... grumble grumble grumble...) The Chaos fleet needs its variety to do well, and so a good combination is required. I find that the only Heavy Cruiser worth taking most of the time is the Styx, as the other two have a standard Cruiser equivalent which for me are better use of points. As for the normal cruisers, youcant beat the Devastation, and some comlain that it is too good for its points. Most Chaos fleets should have a majority of Murders and Carnages. My personal preference is the Carnage, but these two vessels are sister ships and you selection really depends on who you go up against. The Slaughter is the only cruiser that you need to keep an eye on. Dont let it get isolated. For this, it is best either to get two of these (which most people do) or supply a guard of lance escorts to keep it a little more protected. For your initial six ships, I would only make a single Heavy Cruiser (for me that would be a Styx). That gives you five more and I would probably make a Slaughter (coupled with some escorts) a Devastation (you only really need one in a fleet this size with a Styx already), two Carnages and a Murder (or two Murders and a Carnage if you prefer). This would give you a nice and flexible fleet. If you then add another four vessels, perhaps another Grand Cruiser, a second Devastation (I usually take two of these instead of a Styx anyway), a Slaughter (partner the first) and a Murder or Carnage. You could also look at the Murder variant, with weapons and lances. With ten cruisers, you might be a little attack craft heavy with a Styx and two Devastations, but I would not use all three in the same game it would give you options. Anyway, good luck with it. |

Thanx with all the help u guys ![]() Ive got a good idea of what Im doing now. At present Im planning on making a completely cruiser based fleet. ".ie. 6-10 Crusiers + 1-2 Grand Cruisers." Then if I wish I can add one or two of my numarous flag ships which uv all seen ![]() Ive not got any escorts yet. Ive read a few articals on the net and alot of people play with fleets consisting souling of cruisers. So I plan to do for a while to keep things simple. |

I strongly advocate a mixed fleet- a squadron or 2 of escorts will greatly increase your flexibility. Get a squadron of torpedo destroyers and some frigates to do close in defence of your Grand Cruiser from ordnance attacks. Your survivability increases markedly! |

Hmmm.. Well whats the best sort of escort to use? Being a chaos fleet I guess I can use Chaos or corrupted Imperium escorts, or maybe even some space marine stuff ![]() ![]() |

My favourite basic Chaos escorts are Idolators- nice as they don't get a column shift when firing their batteries at over 30cm range, and Infidels- fantastic for well timed torpedeo strikes (just like my Cobras... heh heh.. ![]() ..You could use Imperial and SM escorts if you like, just as Chaos could basically use _any_ Imperial vessesl, but I'd stick to using the 'proper' ones- Chaos fleets have a lot of great ships, and it makes it more of an interesting challenge playing than being able to choose the best ships from other fleets as well.... ![]() |

You should only take true Chaos escorts in 'unfriendly' games. ![]() The first escort that I take is usually a squadron of Infidels, as they are the only vessel in the Chaos fleet less than 230 points with torpedoes. Just adding a few of these keeps you opponent on their toes as they give you a lot more flexibility and suddenly the enemy are a little more cautious of bunching their ships. Idolators are usually the second on my shopping list as a squadron of five throws out strength 15 weapon batteries, which are not to be ignored. The third Chaos escort I usually only take as Slaughter support, as they are expensive and the Chaos fleet has a fair few lances even without them. |

Perhaps I should qualify that... Having the vessel stats from other minis can be cherry picking - getting the best of everything. However, you could alway suse the usual stats with different minis, for example an Imperial vessel with four launch bays for a Styx. |
