I ordered some tau bfg models the other day whic are:
3 hero cruisers 1 pack of orcas (so 4 of them) 1 pack of defenders (so 3 of them)
I know i can only use 0-1 hero per explorer or merchant class vessel, and can only use orcas if i have those, so my question is: What do you think a good 750 point force is? (i know buying 3 heroes without the ability to use them was a bit silly, but i got them for $9 each and it was a deal i couldnt say no to)
I was thinking of using 2 heros, 2 merchants(which i'll have to buy), and 4 orcas... or should i get use more orcas and defenders?

So, did you buy any more ships? How did the ones you bought turn out?
I dont know about the Tau fleet, so cant advise on a composition. Though personally I would have bought 1 Merchant and 1 Explorer, purely so I had at least one of each class to try out.

it was weird, when i finally got my heros they all had explorer hulls instead of hero hulls. I called up GW and they are sending me 3 hero hulls so i guess when im going to buy explorers i could just buy the bits and save a few dollars. I like the look of the escorts alot more than the cruisers and battleships though... Ive been drawing up plans to scratch build some ships that are cruisers based on teh escorts. i mean, every other fleets escorts look like the non-escorts so yeah.

What are you going to use for the cruisers?
Its good when GW/FW make a mistake, as you know you're gonna get extra stuff then.
I've only seen the ships in the pics, so cant grasp their exact appearance. Is it the smoothness of the escorts you prefer to the bulky almost modular appearance of the cruisers?
Aren't the Explorers the big ship? You did well there!

You did well there! | i like the way the escorts look... im just trying to find a place to put weapons on them without ruining the look of them (or making them too big)... right now, im thinking the space allotted to weapons has to be about 7mm to 10 mm by 15mm to 20 mm and 3 to 5 mm thick. its really small, but other wise they'll just look like they have a bunch of extra junk hanging off them. its hard... Ive had to redraw the prow of the ship 3 or 4 different times before i settled on one i like...
It seems im going to be at this for a while.

Does anyone know of any pictures online with the Tau along side another fleet? (for size comparison).
I'm assuming the Tau Cruisers are fairly large right? (since their cruiser models cost as much as battle ships for every other race )

the hero cruiser is about the same length as an emperor battleship, but it comes with a small base
