Hello everyone!

I just wonder what you BFG veteran players think about the rules in the WD?
Would this rules change too much your style of playing the game? (Or even your fleet?)

Cheers
Axt

PS: By the way, I used to post in the old forum and checked it once in a while . In this "new" forum (new to me at least)this is going to be the first post...

Welcome back then! :)

Hmmm...it appears that once again the Pacific WD is quite different to yours.  What are the rules in the Uk version?

The rules in the UK WD are basically ones we've seen before- the Experimental Ordnance rules, Nova rules and the new Escort stuff to halp with the 'Assault boat problem'..

-My opinions- the Ordnance rules are great, we have been using them for months and find them very effective.

The Nova rules are okay I think, although they do tend to make it quite accurate- even if the template deviates, it is still quite likely to hit a ships base...

The Escort rules- we haven't yet used the VP system, but the BFI solution works well and is very fair...

Oh, and welcome to Epicomms Axtklinge! :D

Most of the rules have appeared before (forget the fact that the other rules are appearing for the first time not in Gothic mag, why subscribe?   ).

I have not tried any of these recently, but that never stopped me having an opinion in the past:

The Nove rules are fantastic, and I really like them. I hate the dea of 'guess weapons' in general, so the scatter is welcomed. If only they could actually start to put a scatter dice on the rule box.

The ordnance rules have me a little confused. I have not checked, but are they different from the past? Now it seems that all ordnance is reloaded as normal, and the restriction is in effect only when you actually launch.

I really like the Escort rules. I want to try these out and I feel that the dual rules of vp's only for squadrons and bracing for h&r will mean that the enemy will need to throw a lot more attack craft to take out the little guys.

Well, I suppose I am asking for something highly illegal here but there we go:

In Spain we have something called "Moronic WD from hell and lower levels", which means that something mildly interesting appears there once every decade or so. Given that obviously the BFG and other sub games have no representation at all in the flashy miniature display catalog that GW releases every month. In fact, even the GW staff that happen to work in Studio Spain say that the Spanish WD is lame to say something positive about it.

So, could someone tell me what all those new BFG rules are? I have no idea of what are you talking about but I am greatly interested in hearing. The exact rules are notr necessary if you don't want to post them, but at least a resume or something so I get an idea of what can I expect if I manage to get the rules somehow  :) Thx.

health and a lot of sixes,

Xavi

There are basically four new rules:

Nova - this appeared in a Gothic mag. Basically, this is no longer a guess weapon. Instead, you place the template within the minimum and maximum range, at the closest target, and roll to scatter.

Ordnance - this also appeared in a Gothic mag. As normal, except that you cant run out of attack craft, and you cant have more on the board than you have launch bays in your vessels (which leads onto Imperial fleets with a single vessel with assault boats...).

It has been clarified that you can brace for impact against hit and run attacks.

Escorts only give victory points for squadrons, not individual vessels, treating a squadron as a cruiser for these purposes.

Great! Thx dude, greatly appreciated :)

All those changes look good so far.

Only criticism I could make is that maybe those new rules turn the nova cannon into a too powerful weapon, though. After all Nova Cannons are supposed to be highly inaccurate in the fluff. If not, every single Empire vessel would have them. Only once or twice they did hit something breaking havoc, but in most other cases in the fluff they appear as ineffective or less effective than expected. The hugge template still hists most stuff in packed up fleets when the game is ints initial stages, that is when you are using your novas.

The hit and run bracing and the squadron thingy look great so far.

Mixed opinion on the ordenance thingy. it is a mixed bag for me. I like fighters and bombers, even if I have not used a carried heavy fleet yet. I can see that as good for game balance, but bad in some aspects when it comes to battle "realism". After all a ship carries more ships than what it can launch in a salvo. Not being able to have more than DOUBLE or TRIPLE your launch bay value worth of fighter-bomber markers on the board would look fairer IMO. But it prevents the overuse of the ordenance rules, so it is a good thing as well. As I said, mixed bag there :)

Again, thx for the info :)

Regards,

Xavi

Have you ever played anyone who was really good at guessing ranges? It would hit a LOT, probably more than the scatter method.

All of the rules have appeared online somewhere, so there should be no problem with me giving general details. The hit and run thing has been debated a lot on the Gothic list, and the Escort VP rule was broadcast there too.

The ordnance rules seem ok. I never had too much trouble with the old rules, but the newer ones will limit the effect of attack craft on the game. The only problem that I have is that the rule was brough around to put people off taking carrier fleets. I just dont think that the new rule does this. Those people will still take loads of launch bays to outnumber the opponents attack craft, and I dfont see how this will change as a result of this rule.
