By the sounds of it not many of you are impressed with the BFG Magazine, but what I really want to know is it a must buy or can I get by without it?

Not a must buy at all, I'd say- the new official rules from each year are published in the annual/(Armada this year).. also, much of the new rules have been appearing in WD, and the Yahoo BFG list is a great place to pick up new ideas, conversions, and much other interesting stuff....

Sounds like I might skip it then, even though it will be the only one I dont have since Issue #1.  The mini campaign sounds interesting though- can I have a synopsis on it?

Darkone- I agree with you and think that conversion, modelling and painting idea are important, even if you only take away on bit from the article, your own methods will improve.  Its always a source of inspiration too.  I guess the key is to have a nice balance of stuff, which this BFG Issue apparently didn't

Chris- I guess the only way of ensuring the EA Mag doesnt go this way is to provide input yourself.  In fact maybe that whats needed for BFG now?  Some renewed enthusaim and article submissions?  Just a thought- its not like I have submitted anything to them recently so its a bit hypocrytical of me to write that.  Vote with your feet I guess guys.  I'm sure Darkone would love BFG stuff for Incoming anyhow if GW doesnt...

writing an article for BFGMag right now, about Chaos minelayer frigates that deploy daemon mines from one of the EOT scenarios. I've painted the mines up, but I'm waiting for my Warstore order to come in so I can refit my Iconoclasts for minelaying duties.

Tas:

I like the ideas people have and their paint schemes which sometimes surprises me how certain colours go together.  In an article it depends on whats put in it and what models you are painting up.  Dropship always has interesting models with classy paint jobs, so people dont mind so much.  I think I get away with it when doing my articles on the Tau, they are just new models that are not seen painted so much, although mine are just slightly modified colours from the codex itself.
Conversions just seem to top the bill because they are really interesting. Gives people more scope for ideas to try out themselves.

Serps:Looking forward to seeing that, sounds really good!

Me too- very WW1 Raider style...

Darkone- yeah, it has to pique intrest.  Then again, Tuff's "How to paint Guardsmen" article was very basic on standard figs and I found it excellent as it had paitning tips and a different style to mine.

Hey - Incoming! can have anyhting becasue Nobody is going to complain that it was a waste of money  :)   I think it a great resource that is put togther very nicely.

you have a good point there regarding interest.... and another good point regarding incoming as you dont pay for it.

As for painting schemes I am learning all the time so keeping up with site updates like dropship are definately worthwhile....

Theres a new GW book out which details painting techniques etc, I will see if I can get a look at it in Gamesday unless I have to order it. Not sure if its any good but its worth a look

That is a great article I throughily enjoyed reading it. It seemed to me to be in line with the rest of the fluff and a most wonderful idea... now all I got to do is get some ships to convert.  :)

Thanksyou Serps- I enjoyed that.

Mining is a cheap, effective and underestimated facet of modern warfare.  Like you, I also think this will be so in the far, far future...
