Greetings Admirals, With GW shutting down Internet vendors, I bought the ends of a Necron fleet at my soon-to-be-closed favorite shop.  At any rate, I own a small pile of the smaller Necron excorts and at least two of all of the larger ships. How do I use them guys (tactics)? I'm hoping that playing the overbalanced Necron fleet will balance out my demoralizing run with the underbalanced Ork fleet. Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |

Aha a fellow budding Necron Player  I have also recently started to gather a Necron Fleet. Unfortunatly I have yet to field it in battle so all I can give is my Ideas on tactics and the fleet. I was planning on having 2 main 'prongs' of attack. Each consisting of several escorts and up to two larger ships. In a 1000pt list I had 2 Scythe, a shroud and about 8 escorts of varying design. The overall plan, and I cannot stress this enough, is to keep your fleet together. Once your fleet starts to break down into individual parts the opposing forces will take it apart a bit at a time. The opposing force will more then likely be trying to pick your fleet off one at a time. try to do the same to him. attack small-ish squadrens with each of your 2 forces. one-on-one your ships should prove superiour. Thats all I can suggest for now, although I am happy to discuss Ideas with you. Just don't worry too much If I take a day or two to respond! (I don't have a perminint Internet connection where I live at uni and so have to check on Campus once a day )Good Luck  -BS |

Some fleets seem to be more pat towars using multiple attack groups in an effort to try to achieve advantageous firing position for one of the groups. I'm not sure if the Necrons want multiple groups or one more powerful self-supporting group. I'd tend to think one more powerful group would better exploit the technological advantages of the Necrons. With Orks, I tried both tactics with neither working too well. Of course, I also had to deal with a weird run on the odds giving FAR TOO MANY Exterminatus missions, which are nigh impossible for the Orks to win as the attackers. Black-Snotling, How many escorts do you have? At two each of the larger starships, I don't know what kind of ratio of smaller escorts i should have. It seems to me upon a glance at the ships, the medium Necron cruisers would be the most effective attack platforms. Shalom, Maksim-Smelchak. |

I am planning on initially having 3 of the the larger escorts and 4 of the bigger ones. I will use them to screen my two groups and try to make the two groups even in terms of firepower. I agree that the mediem ships do appear to be the best value and proberly a good base for an attack group. |
