| Post subject: | Opinions on the Armageddon3 ships... |
What do people think of the ships in battle?... the Armageddon battlecruiser and the Oberon and Apocalypse battleships.. Any tactics for them? At the moment I am building an Apocalypse just for fun from a second Retribution I was given. I'm wondering how effective it is, and how it compares to the "Victory" in the Gothic Annual, which is basically the same model. -thanks in advance. |

Personally, I really like the Apocalyspe. I use it for my imperial fleet. |

The Apocalypse is a strange ship. The 6 lances look poromising, but the 30 cm range make it just a big Gothic. Lances work best at long ranges as they pour out a constant stream of damage unaffected by range and facings. And don't bother expanding the Apocalypse?s lances? range , the automatic critical hurts too much -a couple of long-range volleys and both your opponent and your own ship are crippled, not a big deal! Personally I favour the more conventional Victory class, with str4/60 cm lances broadside. |

Yeah i was a bit dubious about the 30cm range... lucky its the same model as the Victory.. I can swap its role easily  What did you guys do with the prow? I'm planning to simply fill in the torp tubes with greenstuff, as I did with my Mars. I know the A3 picture shows it with tubes & nova cannon, but this seems bizzare and confusing (a simple 'cut & paste' with no alterations I'm thinking)... so as I've said, the prow will be smooth... comments anyone? |

The apocalypse is effective when using it as a wedge. Fly into the enemy's front line using the nova cannon and dorsal weapon batteries along the way. Slam the enemy with 12 close range lance shots (lock on if possible for re-rolling misses). Once you pass the enemy you can start turning to have your port or starboard facing their rear. That's where you'll probably have to extend the range of the lances and hit them hard when they think they're out of range. You should only need to extend the range one or twice in a battle and you can repair the critical damage. |
