Well, BFG requires some tactics, but chess or other gaming systems are more complicated in that field :) It is not for morons (few games are) but does not require you to be welling to do OK. maybe to excel at beating the opponent hands down, yes, but not to be able to perform an OK role :) It is one of the things I like about it. For me Blood Bowl is one of the best GW games tactically speaking. 40k and others are bland in that field (blander(?) than BFG). But that is a completely different discussion. The fact that a game does not require you to be Napoleon does not mean that it is not A TON OF FUN and tactically challenging. :D

The fiun part and background is what makes me play this game. Oh, and the possibility to look at the 40k players ranting about their all powerful Baneblade or warhound titan and be able to chuckle at them as "toy players" that do not know what true firepower is :p LMAO. I had a great in character scene in a GW store once just because of that. :vD

Cheers,

Xavi

....or tactically demanding but fun nonetheless. ...

WHOA!

BFG is tactically seen very challenging!

I meant comparing BFG to other space ship combat games I have played like Silent Death, Full Thrust, Starmada, Federation Commander and A Call To Arms.

Cheers

James

Exactly- that was what I was trying to get across with my "beer & pretzels" comment.

Cheers

Does more rules and orders make for a tactical more challenging game?

Chess has only little rules....

Your right- I'm wrong. Please ignore any earlier comments I made about my opinion of BFG.

Regards

Everyone is entitled to their opinion regarding tactics. There is no right or wrong. Merely different views.  :;):

Gothic - Conciliator Venerabilis

Overlord - The Elizabeth "MIZ LIZ"

Deamonslayer/Beeffed up Tyrant - Hammer of The Emperor

Group

I finally got round to getting a digital camera to get some pics. The fleet is slowly coming along, I have had a couple of games now, win some lose some, all in all an EXCELLENT GAME.

I have also tickled on Inquisitor a bit which is starting to look interesting.

;)

I have made up (and bought) a 2000 pts fleet now (a campaign is being run at my local GW shop)

2000pts Fleet

- Oberon class Battleship = 335
  - Fleet Admiral = 50
  - total = 385

Squadron of;
- Overlord class Battlecruiser = 235
  - Cadian Veteran Officer = 50
  - +1 turrent
  - total = 295
- Gothic class Curiser = 180
      - Squad total = 475

Squadron of;
- Apocalypse Class Battlecruiser = 245
- Lunar class Cruiser = 180
      - Squad total = 425

Squadron of;
- Mars Class Battlecruiser = 270
- Tyrant class Cruiser = 185
  - Nova Cannon = 20
  - All WB at 45cm range = 10
  - total = 215
        - Squad total = 485

- Repulsive class Grand Cruiser = 230

Grand Total = 2000

I am pleased at how enjoyable a legal list is, it fits quite well into my story with the rarity of most of my ships. Strategically however is this list viable?

The admrial represents the inquisitor (along with the +1 the oberon gives) makes a good Ld flag ship, and the Cadian Vet. representing the "admrial" (In such large scale battles my inquisitor takes command).

The formation ideas;
Overlord and Gothic: Ovld. long range pummels ships until close range and combined firepower of ovld. + gothic should be suffcient.

Armageddon and Lunar: Obvious choice arm. is beffed up lunar both of which are good all round ships, together should be able to hold own.

Mars and Tyrant: Both have nova cannons and 45cm WB, with the support of the dorsal lances and launch bays of the mars. To be held near center of fleet.

Repulsive: who doesnt like a replusive? Note do not attempt special orders. (From Segmentum Obsurus reserve fleet)

Overall Strategy: Oberon at Center, to its left Mars & Tyrant, right Overlord & Gothic. Far left Repulsive, Far right Armageddon and Lunar.

                                           R M&T O O&G A&L

Ok, so what do you think? Suggestions, good? bad? Viable? etc?

I like your ship selection. A nice variety and includung designs such as the Lunar which are supposed to be workhorses of fleet yet too rarely appear.

It is a fleet that I would enjoy playing with/against.

Cheers

James

Looks good. I just like light cruisers and escorts in fleet but that's just me... :)

Cool pics too, the Ad Mech ship seems to come nicely along. Keep it up.

-VO

Edit: sorry, Inq ship I ment, not Ad Mech...
