Cruiser Clash setup

AdMech
Magos Explorator
Lunar + range upgrade + AWR + GTM -> crippled, about to disengage...
Gothic + RS -> crippled, disengaged
Defiant + {speed bonus) -> destroyed
Strike Cruiser
3x Gladii
3x Hunter -> destroyed

Ork
3x Terror (2x Warboss) -> 1 with Warboss destroyed
1x Kill Kroozer
4x brute ram -> crippled
2x onslaught -> destroyed

End result: 367,5 vps vs 340vps in favour of the Orks.

In terms of vps very close but as we ended I may have head better positions behind his fleet (Strike Cruiser + 2 Gladii) but he had 1 unscathed Kill Kroozer and Terror and 1 Terror with -1 hp and 2 ramships left.

Moment of the Game:
Last turn: I target his crippled terror with warboss, in the end it got destroyed, catastrophic damage: 6 + 6 = warp drive implosion.... 10 lances on (uncrippled) Defiant, Strike Cruiser and lone Hunter. Hunter survived (2 BFI), Strike Cruiser 1 hit (+1 bfi), Defiant: 7 hits, 1 brace, ship death: plasma drive overload = 1 death Gladius.

Orks where quite good with boarding torps, disabling my starboard weapons on Gothic (2 turns) and Lunar (1 turn) + more, in effect making me gun-less. Strike Cruiser received 2 as well but managed to repair.
In fact the Strike Cruiser performed awesome accounting for lots of hits and good T-Hawk runs.

Deserved Ork victory though. I need more ordnance in my AdMech....

Opponents Story:
And there were 3 "moments of the game". Only the last one was in favour of
the Orks, the one which I will now call "the revenge button" ;-)

In the second turn, the first turn of contact en fire, the strike cruiser
decided much of the rest of the battle with one shot bombardment cannon
shot: 2 dice, 2 hits, 2 criticals and both added extra hits on my terror
ship, crippled in 1 shot that defied statistics.

In the first shooting of the Orks the boarding torpedoes did fine, but no
hits whatsoever and horrible dice with shooting.
And then BFI saved at least one Imperial Cruiser from being crippled,
failing only 1 from 7. And although that happened more often in the game,
this one was the worst and saved the Adeptus Mechanicus from an early
decision.

On the whole the dice were a bit against the Orks but that 2nd turn the dice
were very much in favour of the adeptus mechanicus taking down 1 ork cruiser
and saving 1 of their own.

Finally the end situation was a bit more positive for the orks.
There was 1 strike cruiser and 2 gladii that faced my fleet's abeam indeed.
But I had 2 ram ships, 1 terror ship between 1 and 10cm behind the remaining
AdMech cruiser (Magos Explorator) and the other 2 kroozas 20cm behind it.
It had no long-term chance except disengaging.

And the strike cruiser was good, very good, it was beyond a doubt the most
valuable ship of the match, but it could not be THAT good... or could it...
;-)

How long did the game take?  Sounded kinda short.  Violent, brutal and bloody is just fine, but I got the impression there was not much 'intervening terrain' to block lines of fire, and so draw out the game.  A wide open space isn't supposed to be popular with Orks, normally.  Just curious.

The engagement happened between two asteroid fields. Took us 3 and half hours.

wow! Was I wrong!  I guessed a max of two hours.  So much for guessing.  Are you fellows going to have a rematch?  With similar forces I mean.  Could also prove interesting.  Maybe give the AdMec a shot at revenge?
Either way, something new, or retried, will be fun.
