This might actually take things too far. The concept is to play a convoy fleet being escorted to a new world.  A short campaign (3 games long), it owes a lot to BSG. I would encourage someone to develp this idea for the web magazine.

Play the Convoy Scenario, triple the number of ships used (or x4). The convoy fleet represents fleeing imperial citizens from Medusa V in this example. Surviving ships where ambushed as they try and pass out of the system.

Next games take place at a ?Jump Point? relay point at the edge of a system where their warp drives are just strong enough to allow them to escape the pull of the star in warp space. (yes, GW plot) Here you use a special rule. Keep a D6 next to each of the ships. The goal is to charge the warp drives till they are strong enough to jump. Each turn survived allows you to add 1 pip representing the warp core gaining strength. The ships may then attempt to jump at the end of any given turn, their goal to take the total charge on the warp core and add a d6. On a success they jump to warp-space and procede to the next mission, on a failure (or a 1) they move forward 4d6cm as they crash back into reality and have a blast token placed in base contact. Play until all the ships make the jump or are destroyed. In all other respects it would be a 750 pt game.

The last game would be planetary assault, and it would represent the fleet providing a covering action while the colonists try and make it to the surface so they may defend themselves/star the colony.

As an added twist you could number the transports and keep tabs on crew manifests. See what the colonists actually have or how many made it to the colony.

That sounds cool. Next Warp Rift will be of major use to you to further improve this.

Sounds good. There's scope there to scratch build your own colony ships too.
