Hmmm, I am not sure. I am not that fond of including Eldar in a standard Rogue Trader list. In a campaign it could work.

Agreed, while I like the idea of having Eldar mercs along for the ride, including them in a one-off battle seems wrong.

But I do think they would make for a fun twist in a campaign.

Hmm, yes I agree, eldar inclusion in the RT-fleets should stay as it is, limited to a few upgrades, but nothing in therms of ships etc. For a campaign it would be great, but otherwise no.

A squadron of Eldar Escorts would be very appropriate alongside the cruisers in the 'Legendary Vessels' part of the list.

A thought to you all: A Bastion or Stronghold would be an immense tour de force alongside a Rogue Trader Fleet (A Stronghold could probably monopolise a low-end civilised world's industry...), what about Demiurg Escorts?

I'm cool with the idea of Eldar ships in the context of 'legendary traders'. As such, I'd stipulate that only Hellebores and Corsair Classes may be selected. The rest are all a bit too...military, dontcha think? Keep it properly 'legendary'. ;)

Hmmm, interesting.  The restriction to Corsairs or Hellebores actually presents an interesting facet beyond just being hired guns.  And I very much agree that the Hellebores fit the more universal approach which Eldar captains operating independantly would likely take.  This Legendary Trader selection for Eldar should be explored.

Also- Demiurg escorts would be great.  Perhaps to that end we might make use of your brainchild, Xisor, and take selections from the Demiurg Commerce Fleet list?  Those Demiurg escorts are a perfect compliment to the Rogue Trader since they are a commerce and trade based fleet...  with a lot of guns.

hmmmm. yes perhaps a legendary trader with an eldar connection, allowing him to take a single escort squadron of hellebores? Or make a expesieve upgrade which allow the trader to take an eldar escort squadron?

About the Demiurg, escorts would be great and perhaps even a single bastion cruiser?
How about an upgrade which allows you to choose an alliance with a specific race?

My take on a legendary Rogue Trader:

Commander Nicius Ravenclaw, Captain of the Repulse

Nicius Ravenclaw acquired the Repulse through a deal with a Rogue Eldar Seer, Ilithien. Nicius was rescued by Ilithien after his Trade Galleon, the Galactic Wanderer, was attacked and destroyed by an Imperial battle group. Nicius has valiantly fought the imperials, but in the end his ship couldn?t stand up against the shear might of the imperial vessels arranged against him. Setting his ship on a course which would take her straight into the heart of the battle group, Nicius activated the self-destruction sequence. He the abandoned ship with most of his crew. After the destruction of the Galactic Wanderer, the Imperial battle group disengaged and left Nicius and his crew in deep space.
Three days later they where picked up by a lone Hellebore frigate. On this ship, Nicius first met Ilithien and struck his deal. Although he didn?t know what the motives of his rescuer were at the moment, he was keen to take the offer. He was a Trader after all. Ilithien took him and his crew to and uncharted asteroid field. Hidden deep within the asteroid field lay an very old imperial cruiser, of unknown class and origin. After boarding, Nicius and his crew discovered that most of its systems were in a somewhat operational status. Nicius then accepted the deal Ilithien offered him and took command of the Repulse. As part of the deal Ilithien stayed aboard the Repulse.
The last known sighting of the Repulse was in Corinthian space, where it and its attendant fleet engaged a small imperial flotilla.

The Repulse, Legendary Trade Galleon : 365 points( Including Captain Ravenclaw)

Hitpoints  : 8
Speed       : 25cm
Turns     : 45*
Shields     : 2
Turrets     : 2
Armour    : 5+

Prow weapons battery:  str 4 @ 45cm LFR
Port lance battery:  str 2 @ 45cm
Port lance battery:   str 2 @ 30cm
Starboard lance battery: str 2 @ 45 cm
Starboard lance battery: str2 @ 30 cm

Upgraded Boosters (+1D6 AAF)
The Repulse has been fitted with several upgraded boosters which give her a exceptional straight line speed. The Repulse gains +1D6cm move when on AAF orders.

Vectored Thrusters:
Due to her strange engine configuration the Repulse can pull of manoeuvres normally impossible for a ship her size. When on CTNH orders the Repulse may move up to 10 cm sideways before turning.

Ilithien, Rogue Eldar Seer
Ilithien has accompanied Nicius every since they made a deal. Ilithien grants the Repulse a extra reroll. Furthermore, Ilithien grants the inclusion of 3 Hellebore Frigates in the fleet.

Captain Ravenclaw has ld9 and comes with 1 reroll

I think we are straying away from the main theme. Could we please finish off the standard list before getting into legendary ships, commerce special rules and the like? (i think they are much pretty done, but i would like some consensus before going to another issues)

PS: Good ideas for legendary ships, those of yours :)

will do sir ;)

Allright. How about this.

We make the legendary trader an upgrade for your regular Rogue Trader. Make it say 30 points or so.

This upgrade then gives you acces to three alliengances:

Eldar: You may included 1 squadron of Hellebore Frigates or 1 squadron of Corsair raiders in your fleet

Tau: You may include 1 emessairy class cruiser and 3 tau escorts ( the ones that can me warp dives, forgot the name)

Demiurg: You may include 1 Bastion class cruiser in your fleet or 1 squadron of demiurg escorts.

Perhaps we could do with some other alliegances, perhaps something mariney? Something to do with some zealous chapter which joins the Rogue trader on his travels? Or is that to far out?

I'll make up a new word document with all the escorts in it  and a small section on famous traders, meaning Artelus Grey, the tau one ( sorry forgot the name) and Nicius Ravenclaw. I suggest we make those three special characters/ships.

Also, we need to set a limit on how much upgrades a vessel may take, depending per class. And we need to establish several points values for the different upgrades. Several don't have a point cost. I will make some suggestions in the following word document.

PS. Have a nice vacation BH!

Edit:
I've completed the word document. Hope you guys like it. I've even started to flesh out the different classes with a little bit of fluff text. Owh and by the way, I've finised scratchbuild several Rogue Trader vessels: 2 Merchantmen, 3 Lorcha's and 1 Trade Galleon. I've also converted 2 other Trade Galleons, one from the RT-cruiser and one from an old chaos cruiser ( the Repulse). I'll try to post piccies tomorrow in the dry dock.

Still i miss those Q-ships, free small merchants and auxiliary carriers. Do you think they should not be included? i say so because there was no answer in any way to that proposal...

Hi guys, here's the updated list.

Now we need to establish how many upgrades you may take per ship class.

I would suggest:
Galleon: 4 upgrades (Fiuuuuu...)
Merchant: 3 upgrades
Lorcha: 2 upgrades
Escorts: 1 upgrade
And make exotic upgrades available only to flagship (or maybe to the flagship?s squadron, i don?t know)

hmmm....

I would allow exotic upgrades to the lower classes as well:

Galleon: 3 upgrades, 2 exotic
Merchant: 2 upgrades, 2 exotic
Lorcha: 1 upgrades, 1 exotic

Not sure on these ones:
Escorts: 1 upgrade
