I'm starting to feel confident, cocky even, which is bound to be my downfall. ?But like the orkzys say,

'we Orkz never luuz. ?If we runz away, we can alwayz av annuver go.'

I feel the cold approach of the hammer of reality approaching you about now. Getting cocky is always the thing that kills you first!  :o

Anyway, good luck. At least you are raising the profile of the Orks in several places. Go for it, Orks are supposed to be arrogant anyway. You may find your Hammer disintigrating around you as it become a favourite target. You could always paint a target on it in recognition!

He He He.   :D

I might just do that.  I feel ashamed to say I still haven't painted my Ork fleet yet, and thats a good idea.

I was always an Eldar player at heart, but I feel the Orks have taken priority now, and are my favourite (40K) race.

I should start to get me together an Ork epic army to reinforce the bond.

Another friday over, another campaign turn done.

The Imperial player still didin't show who I want to land 40K on.

So, I was attacked by the other Imperial player again.

He took a nova cannon, but luckily for me kept scattering and only succeded in knocking down shields.

I took a few casualties from sling shot torps, but returned the favour by knocking out a couple of firestorms.

I used a planet to shield me from his bombers, and advanced once he was a little closer.

I got my Hammer within 15 of one of his cruisers (with the nova) in front, and a dictator to the side.  I had placed it on locked on, and unleashed everything at point blank.  The prow gunz took down the shields and caused a couple of points of damage.  And then the bombardment cannon did its work, obliterating it.  Luckily catastrophic was a drifting hulk.

The side gunz fired on the dictator stripping its shields, and then the eavy gunz fired taking off four points (two hit).  One of these was a critical causing a shields collapse. In one turn my hammer had destroyed a cruiser to its front, and crippled a dictator to the side, destroying its shields!!! }:)

I then pounded the dictator with my terror ships and escorts, taking its last points, again it became a drifting hulk.

In the previous turn he had 2 untouched cruisers a cobra and a firestorm.  This turn he had a cobra.  Another victory for the Orks, the WWAAAAAGGGHHHH goes on.

I wanted to attack one of his planets that night (that fight was over one of mine) but he never had time.  Its now planned for two weeks away.  I'm gaining in confidence. Though when attacking you only have 600pts against 700.

Just thought I'd bring this thread to a close.  The last campaign day for this was last Friday.  On the day I was still top of the league (with an unbeaten BFG record   }:)    ) but I never particapated on the last day, instead playing an Imperial Guard player at 40K with my Orks.

I had a bit of a lead at the top, so I think I'll still win the prize of a handful of thin air.

So my thoughts on the Ork list is, at below 1000pts, you can create a very strong fleet.  Okay, I was maybe on the cheesy side including a Hammer class cruiser, but with the rest of the fleet being on the weak side, it balances out.

Also, at this low point value, you can gain ordnance supremity, since you will be able to deploy many carriers easier.

So, in brief.

Take a Hammer (or even better the new Deathdeala)
Take two terrors
Take two squadrons of a couple of onslaughts backed up by a Ravener

And unleash as many assault boats as possible.

Then just close the gap asap.  And if you're lucky enough to pass a lockon order too..........   BOOOOOM!!!

Great topic SH. WHy don't you compile this into an article for the main site. There needs to be more Ork guides out there.

That is a great idea. An article on Ork tactics, with examples from real games would be great.

Okay.  I will need to compile all this together, and use the De'aynes thing I sent to Cyber too.

It'll take a little while.  I have to get my computer up and running at home first.  I will then do large articles at home, save them onto  disc and then send them in.

The BFG campaign has now finished (yay me with a nice shiney [imaginary] gold medal) so my BFG playing is not every week anymore.  I picked up enough experiance from it to post some thoughts.  I'm not saying they'll be perfect though    :;):

Cyber- Do you want it to fit in with the De'aynes thing, be seperate, or something else?

I'll try and do a battle group for them too.  That area is looking rather spartan.

Just a seperate article would be good. Along the lines of the 'basics for gothic' article already there. Great, thanks.

What is a bombardment cannon?

Does it only use firepower or are there special rules for it?

Thanks!

Bombardment cannons are "huge turret mounted linear accelerators, capable of launching a salvo of heavy magma bomb warheads" -BFG annual. They are used on Space Marine (and some Ork) ships, and work like this :

They have Firepower like normal batteries, fire as weapon batteries but always hit on a 4+ or more and inflict critical hits on a 4+ too.

Hope that helps. :)

They are good in Exterminatus(sp?) scenarios. Blast the sh*t out of a planet.

Hope this helps

Cheers

The range is a big problem for the Orks, which is where I found the hammer helped out loads. ?It has a forward gun battery of D6+6 at 45cm. ?This at least had some result, although at best it knocked down two shields, so you still need to back it up.

Whats the best way of konverting a Hammer?

Or would it be better option to buy one of the new Ork Battleships?

Cheers

James

Good God, now this is a thread from the past!  :o

I think that the biggest problem with an 'Ammer is the size, since it should really be a bit bigger than a Krooza. Of course, anything can be konverted or knocked together with the right bits, but I would probably just pick up an official kit, since I think that the Battle Kroozas are some of the best Ork vessels.

Hi CS

Just recycling some old threads. Coat of red paint and this thread will be as good as new.

Do you remember where Andy Chambers' Hammer was featured? Can't see it in Armada.

Do you hav any of the new Ork Battleships? I like the look of Dethdeala and Slamblasta. Kroolboy does n't look as good as Dethdeala- looks worth spending extra 5 points. And Gorbag's Revenge looks a bit pricey. Plus Slamblasta has got stonking great lances on the prow- if the actual model is half as cool as the picture then that's my decision made.

Cheers

James

Fair enough. I think that Andy's Ork fleet appeared in the Blue Book, but I am getting old and I cant be sure. I am fairly sure that it appeared in the UK WD at one point.

I dont have any of the newer ships. My current Ork fleet consists of one Krooza, half painted - Morks Drift.  :D
