WOW!! COngrats! Actually, those monsters appear to be MORE armed than a retribution, not less!! :D Basically, a BB has three weapon slots. You are adding 4 of them for each one of those monsters. And guess what: I LOVE IT!! :D extremely cool man

Now, for stats, maybe go for a little bit less of WYSIWYG than what you were originally intending for. But OTOH I think that playing with the WB strength and the ranges we can work up a solution esily :)

For the armour that you were saying, armour 5 seems right for me. I would not see any reasons to make them weaker than that...

Working on some stats later, after perusing though my IN ship list

Regards,

Xavi

Yeah, well Basically I used the Venegance as a starting point. since it also has 4 weapon slots. I suppose it is simply a matter of powering  these weapons correctly so that you get a firepower similar to a BB but with lower armour. The tricky part is to get a combination which is both fluffy and gives you an option somewhere in between a Battlecruiser/Grand Cruiser and a full size BB.
I was thinking about the lower armour: Another ooption is to give the ships fewer shields in the same way as the Rerpulsive GC???

I'm workinn gon the background setting for my fleet but it goes something like this:

Battlefleet Skagerak.
The Skagerak sector is located near the edges of the Segmentum Solar. With it's close proximity to the Solar system this also makes Battlefleet Skagerak one of the oldest Battlefleets of the Imperium This means that the fleet holds an unusual ammount of ancient ship designs within it's ranks. Being a relatively peacefulll sector the Skagerak system is an industrious area with numerous shipyards. The sector is also home to one of the largest reserve fleet docks which holds hundreds of decommissioned ships.
It came as a surprise to everyone when reports of a huge Warp Rift opening in the sector arrived at Naval high command. Ships were sent to investigate but dissapeared without a trace.

*Some stuff about the Chaos fleet*

Imperial casualties were horrific: In the first months of the conflict no less that 5 Battleships were lost with all hands.
With such unsustainable losses it was decided to upgrade a number of decomissioned Grand Cruisers to Battleship status. The ships were outfitted with extra Plasma Reactors to accomodate the power drain of the added weapons systems. Larger engines were taken from existing battleships in the early stages of construction. However the lack of time and materials meant that the ships could not be outfitted with the heavy armour of a full sized battleship. The result was a series of ships with excellent firepower and speed but relatively low armour characteristics.

Cheers! :)

Hello there!

Playing arund wit fleetmaster (you should get your hands in this wonderful thing) I came around the following designs for your ships. Let's see if you like them. :)

Keep in mind that the GC of the IN, even if they have 4 weapon slots, could be created using 3 of them, not 4 of them. They are not as WYSIWYG as they appear at first glance in that sense. I went for a more massive firepower than that in this sense, so the firepower of the ships is more along the lines of that of a BB.

So the basic design is as follows:

Speed 20,
Shields 2,
Turrets 2 (3 if you pay +10 pts)
Armour 5+ all around

No come to new heading.

SHIP #1
I decided to go for a shorter range but increased firepower. If you keep the weapons systems at 45 cm you can get something that is massive in its medium range firepower but that still has some drawbacks. In a sense, it is no longer a medium vessel between the overlord and retribution, but a ship on its own. Let's see.

Port WB: 45/12
Port Lances: 45/2

Starboard WB: 45/12
Starboard Lances: 45/2

Dorsal lances: 60/2 LFR

Prow NC

Total points: 325.

The thing that increases the points massively is the nova cannon (from 245 without it, to 325 with it). it is a medium range ship, not massively armoured but able to deal some serious damage to the enemy. The array of WB that you have put in the siudes made me go for this design. The number of side lances that you have is actually ONE lance per side (and it can be counted as WB, so you could go for a massive WB: 16 if you wanted to instead of the lances) but it sounds better having 2 of them :D Its firepowr is superior to that of a retribution, but with a shorter range and much lower survivality. A fair trade IMO.

Working on the other ship later. Let's see what you think of this one first :)

Regards,

Xavi

Ship 2 (lance boat)

What about going for a 45 cm combo as well? 4 lances at 60 cm is usually looked down, but 4 lances at 45 cm usually does not rise as many eyebrows :)

Armour 5+, speed 20, 2 shields and 3 turrets

Each side:
- Lances 45/4
- WB 60/6

Dorsal armament: WB 60/6

Prow torps (optional) Strength 6. [It adds 25 pts o the cost of the ship]

TOTAL COST: 245 (270 with torps)

I need to compare both ships with the GC variants, though, something that I have not done so far to see if they fit well with the other ships, or if I am making a plagiarism of an existing GC!! :D

Hope that helped,

Xavi

WMN- I hope you are saving these WIP shots up so that you can put them on your website, along with pics of the finished painted models. Its something that Bob D has done a lot over the years and its something I love to see. Its the sort of thing that inspires you to do conversions of your own.

Cheers

James

Fleetmaster is a program to design ships created by Ned Smotherman. A damn useful tool to calculate the costs of ships. Works great for imperial and chaos fleets and eldar and orks are there as well, even if I have not checked the accuracy of the calculations fo rhtem. SOmeone said they were good there as well, IIRC.

IIRC you can download the zip in the yahoo groups BFG page (bfg-list). A very good program. I recommend it.

If you can'tget it there, tell me and I will send it to you.
