Hi all, I've just received a long-awaited Tau fleet, based on GW models, which (I feel I'm in a minority here) I think I prefer to the FW designs. Anyway, I've got an Explorer, 3 Defenders, and 4 Orcas (ok, and a pair of Warhounds, but that's another story ? ) - am I right in saying I've got 7 escorts, one battleship, and none of the obligatory cruisers? How many do I need for a legitimate fleet? Three? Sorry guys, got no rules for these yet. ?

Hi V. I'm no Tau Expert (I have the same relationship to them as I do with gnomes: They don't exist... atleast in my book ) and I don't own nor have I ever played against the Tau Empire. However If I read the list in Armada right it goes something like this:
You may include any number of battleships but if your fleet is more than 750 you must include at least one Explorer. You may include any number of escorts. There's a restriction on the Messenger though. You may not have more Orcas than the gravetic hook capacity of the fleet.
As far as I can see there's no cruiser-to-BB ratio like the Imperial or Chaos fleets. so as long as you've got enough Gravetic hooks your fleet should be perfectly legal.
Cheers!

Thanks Warmaster - er - what's a gravetic hook? Ok, the AdMech manuals say it's a device for trailing the smaller craft after the big one during spaceflight - but - er - how many do I have in my fleet?

I'm actually not sure. (I never bothered to read the Tau section as I don''t play then nor do my regular opponent )
*looks through Armada*
Aha! It's part of the ship stats in much the same way as Lunch Bays. Ie. the Explorer has 3 Gravetic hooks in addition to it's launch bays. This allows it to transport 3 Orcas. I guess that you are one gravetic hook short of a Tournie legal fleet.
Cheers!
