Well, actually Andromeda is the name of the nearest galaxy (not counting the lesser magellanic cloud). Acorazado is the spanish translation for "battleship" and "dreadnaught" (yes, we don't make any difference: we have battleships predreadnaught and post dreadnaught). Also, i think than any BFG name is in english or latin, so it seems that spanich words are out of place (Blessed Voyager is a ship of mini whose name over here is "Viatger Beneit", which is a valencian translation, not even spanish!)

Let's continue with fluff:

Merchantman

The Merchantman is a step down from the Trade Galleon, equal in size with an Imperial light cruiser, being a comprimise between the raw firepower of a Trade Galleon and the fast and nimble Lorcha. As it's larger cousin, Merchantmen come from a lot of different sources, but most of these vessels started life as super heavy cargo vessels but somehow ended up in the hands of a Rogue Trader, and, due to the Rogue Traders love for modifying his vessels, most of them are made unrecognizable after some refits. Merchantmen are cheaper to run and maintain then a full fledged Trade Galleon, and attract less attention ( for a rogue trader vessel that is), making it a less preferable prey for space pirates. That's why most of this ships ply stablished spacelanes, although some adventurous Rogue Traders not able to afford the larger Trade Galleons use them for exploratory purposes. Some examples of this kind of vessel are Romulus & Remus, sister ships which cover the dangerous route between Mars and Armaggedon, Itzar's Green Hide, a Merchantmen built using part of the hulk of an ork cruiser, the Lar'shi'fannor'o, possibly the most powerfull Merchantmen ever, and the misterious Kalandras, a Merchantmen which is said to trade between eldar exodite worlds ?and other, even darker alien species.

(Insert more names here :p)

Lorcha?s are the smallest class of Rogue Trader vessels. They are somewhere between escort size and light cruiser size. In fact, most of them are extremely converted escorts or ships built using the incomplete frames of light cruisers, be it because they were half finished when the RT took control of them, were intended to be built as Lorchas from the beginning or were made using the remnants of some light cruiser. They?re known for their great speed and manoeuvrability and are often used as smugglers, blockade runners or light raiders. Famous ships of this class include Erick Van Hort's Dragon, the flagship of the Red Flag pirate fleet operating near the Maelstrom, or the Lightning, which made more than thirty voyages to the Armaggedon system when it was being besieged by ork forces during the second war of Armaggedon.

(ok, this entry is shorter than the ones before. I'm running out of ideas!)

I remember reading something about it. Would you please elaborate about it so that we could include it in the merchantman description?

By the waym i edited the Lorcha post.

And last of all things:

Recommissioned Escorts

Since it is of the utmost importance that the valuable cargo of the Rogue Trader is protected, Rogue Trader often recommission old Navy escorts. Most of these vessels are salvaged from reserve fleet depots, sometimes without permission, refitted and brought back into the fight, although there are also  completely overhauled merchant or alien vessels. A famous squadron of this kind of ships is the Julius Kaeron's "T Group" which defeated a Demiurg Cruiser, although it costed the squadron half its numbers. Other famous ship is the Falcon, which has managed to survive its wing mates for more than twenty battles.

So this all folks. Any new development would be mostly wellcome.

'Legendary' stuff I found:

My take on a legendary Rogue Trader:

Commander Nicius Ravenclaw, Captain of the Repulse

Nicius Ravenclaw acquired the Repulse through a deal with a Rogue Eldar Seer, Ilithien. Nicius was rescued by Ilithien after his Trade Galleon, the Galactic Wanderer, was attacked and destroyed by an Imperial battle group. Nicius has valiantly fought the imperials, but in the end his ship couldn?t stand up against the shear might of the imperial vessels arranged against him. Setting his ship on a course which would take her straight into the heart of the battle group, Nicius activated the self-destruction sequence. He the abandoned ship with most of his crew. After the destruction of the Galactic Wanderer, the Imperial battle group disengaged and left Nicius and his crew in deep space.
Three days later they where picked up by a lone Hellebore frigate. On this ship, Nicius first met Ilithien and struck his deal. Although he didn?t know what the motives of his rescuer were at the moment, he was keen to take the offer. He was a Trader after all. Ilithien took him and his crew to and uncharted asteroid field. Hidden deep within the asteroid field lay an very old imperial cruiser, of unknown class and origin. After boarding, Nicius and his crew discovered that most of its systems were in a somewhat operational status. Nicius then accepted the deal Ilithien offered him and took command of the Repulse. As part of the deal Ilithien stayed aboard the Repulse.
The last known sighting of the Repulse was in Corinthian space, where it and its attendant fleet engaged a small imperial flotilla.

The Repulse, Legendary Trade Galleon : 365 points( Including Captain Ravenclaw)

Hitpoints ?: 8
Speed ? ? ? : 25cm
Turns ? ? : 45*
Shields ? ? : 2
Turrets ? ? : 2
Armour ? ?: 5+

Prow weapons battery: ?str 4 @ 45cm LFR
Port lance battery: ?str 2 @ 45cm
Port lance battery: ? str 2 @ 30cm
Starboard lance battery: str 2 @ 45 cm
Starboard lance battery: str2 @ 30 cm

Upgraded Boosters (+1D6 AAF)
The Repulse has been fitted with several upgraded boosters which give her a exceptional straight line speed. The Repulse gains +1D6cm move when on AAF orders.

Vectored Thrusters:
Due to her strange engine configuration the Repulse can pull of manoeuvres normally impossible for a ship her size. When on CTNH orders the Repulse may move up to 10 cm sideways before turning.

Ilithien, Rogue Eldar Seer
Ilithien has accompanied Nicius every since they made a deal. Ilithien grants the Repulse a extra reroll. Furthermore, Ilithien grants the inclusion of 3 Hellebore Frigates in the fleet.

Captain Ravenclaw has ld9 and comes with 1 reroll

Without dishing out the full document, IIRC it was the basic Merchant profile with:
Rear Module Launch Bays
Front Module Ion Cannons
Grav Launcher on the Front

Stats:

Prow Grav Launcher: S4 (I don't recall if this replaced the prow railguns, I suspect it did)
Port/StBd Ion Cannons: S2 Fl/Fr @ 30cm
Port/StBd Launch Bays: S1 each, Mantas or Barracudas

Additionally it's speed went up to 20cm (state of the art military grade drives), two shields, 6 Hit Points (reinforced hull version) and a Prow Deflector

Overall, it's a darned tough little ship, and the 'fluff' behind it is quite clear: this was a one off ship combining all the test parts. Expensive, and fairly rickety, but it worked!

They did realise, however, that in the interests of safety, it'd be better all round to mount the kit on a larger hull, able to accomodate:
- the Prow Railguns
- The Extra Gravitic Missiles
- Extra 2HPs

Of course, the Lar'shi'fannor'o comes with a 'legendary' command crew, eg compulsary refits/crew skills representing the typical crew complement (which often included a certain Envoy...).

Anyhow, I'd be more'n happy to see Legendary Traders kept to a 0-1 maximum. That'd include all types of Tau/Demiurg/Famous Imperials and most types of Marines(Convoy Escort Salamanders!), Kroot and Tarellians etc (thus allowing you to pick affilliation).

The Kroot/Tarellians/Marines would be 'additional' to the Legendary Traders but of the form of 'Mercenaries' (ie you hire 'em or are hired by 'em to protect the fleet), slightly different from the more 'enterprising' fleet legends.

Captain Artelus Grey, Captain of the Merchantmen the Angelic.

The Warrant of Trade bought with a lot of money he inherited from his deceased parents. His father was governor on Tellen IV, located in Segmentum Pacificus, a wealthy and flourishing planet. But unfortunately wealthy people attracted scrupulous people, at the age of eighteen Artelus his parents got assassinated, leaving all their money and wealth to Artelus, their only child. Artelus never knew who was responsible for the murder.
The following years Artelus lived a retracted live in the family mansion, spending his time thinking on what he should do with his life. At one evening, from a drawer in his father?s study room, he found a diary and some reports regarding his great grandfather Uwerton Grey. Uwerton Grey was a so-called Rogue Trader, captain of the revered Venidictus, a re commissioned Dominator class cruiser. He led many expeditions far into the unknown reaches of the Eastern Fringe. Discovering some backwater human colonies, bringing the Light of the Emperor to them. His encounters with alien races varied from brutal battles to peaceful negotiations. Uwerton Grey?s last mission was a venture into the realm called Gates of Varl. Since then no one heard of him. The last transmission from the Venidictus made report of an ambush by alien forces.
Despite the ending of Uwerton Grey Artelus was intrigued by the life as a Rogue Trader. Seeing it as an escape from Tellen IV and a possible same fate as his parents he started to unfold his ideas for a venture into space. From his father?s neglected planetary defence force he took the Angelic, the former flagship, a refitted Merchantmen, remarkable because of its extensive sensor arrays, the only ship left in a good enough shape to take on inter stellar journeys, as his ship. After recruiting the necessary crew and needed servitors he departed for Kar Duniash. A planet from which he could venture into lots of regions through trade. With his final goal building a small trade imperium of his own. But all that changed once Inquisitor Horatio Luvern came aboard the Angelic.
The last known sighting of the Angelic was in Beralan Space where it was heading for the infamous Khareshi Expanse.

The Angelic

Hit points: 6
Speed: 25cm
Turns: 45*
Shields: 2
Armour: 5+
Turrets: 2

Dorsal weapons battery ? 45cm ? 2 ? LFR
Port weapons battery ? 30cm ? 2 ? L
Starboard weapons battery ? 30cm ? 2 ? R
Prow launch bay ? fighter ? 1 ? NA

Upgrade?s
Before venture into the Khareshi Expanse:
* Improved Sensors Array ( as in BBB, +1 Ld)
Crew skill: * Disciplined Crew

Captain Artelus Grey, Leadership 8, 1 re-roll. ? 50 points.

The Angelic, pre-Khareshi Expanse, book I, including Captain Grey, costs 175 points.

Edited the Trade Galleon and Merchantmen entries. Anyway, i have not included the Angelic, just because it seems it's still carving a reputation on it's own (anyway, there would be an Angelic entry in the final document, so it's not that we have left it aside, right?)

Any more ideas? should we use this as is?

I've got several fleet lists including names for my vessels. Unfortunately the list is on my desktop computer and not on my laptop ( still nog internet :S ).
By the way, the Repulse was scrapped as a trade galleon. It now servers as a Governor class grand cruiser in my reserve fleet. I've converted and painted a new rogue trader ship, based om a Mars pattern. Its name is the Domitor Astra. I'll write some fluff for it pretty soon and give you the stats, but basically its a type 3 trade galleon with several upgrades , but I'm not sure which, I'll see if I can reconstruct the vessel from my laptop ( now thats some Adeptus Mechanus enginering for you :-) )
More soon, Including pictures! I'll take several tomorrow hopefully, on our new game table!

cheers!
Yannic

Hey,

take it easy and make everything work, no rushing needed. I scheduled Rogue Traders for Warp Rift 17 in march 2008 (5 months away).

Warp Rift 15 is to be released this week.
Warp Rift 16 is already filled with two main articles.

Hey,

I've finished the fluff on the Domitor Astra. I'll post its stats later but here's the fluff:

Domitor Astra- Legendary Trade Galleon

The Domitor Astra began its life as the Mars Class cruiser Resilience. The construction of the Resilience was plagued by mishaps and strange disappearances. So much that after a while the superstitions dock workers refused to complete work on the Resilience. Believed to be a cursed ship, her hull was left unfinished in orbit around Corinth, where she was used for target practise. After half a century, the battered hulk was acquired by the Rogue Trader Nicius Ravenclaw. After being tugged out of the Corinth system, she disappeared into the warp with the rest of the Rogue Traders Fleet. She reappeared several years later as a fully working Trade Galleon, when she lead a raid against local ork pirates in the Altos system.

Pictures, and hopefully a battlereport will follow.
Our BFG table is nearing its completion, so I've got a nice surface to take pictures on ;)
But first I must lead a Imperial Battlegroup in a planetary defence against chaos raiders!

Rogue Traders leading raids against Orks? Isn't that too risky for most? Or was there a promiss of Wealth?
Otherwise nice story.

This has something to do with a former trade galleon of mine being invaded by orks ;). I'll post a more complete background story when its complete. So its a simple case of revenge, and offcourse some wealth ;-).
More soon, I'm of the college!

Hi guys, back again. And I have some good news. I'll playtest the Rogue Traders next saturday against Imperials and Chaos. I'll post the relevant fleet lists and results when ready. Are there certain things you would like to see playtested, then please send me a note, so that I can include them.

cheers,
Yannic

Well, being the playtestee I thought I'd post here as well. I've got two battlereports waiting to be typed from yesterdays playtests. Should I post them in this thread or make a seperate one?
